I think it's great the younger folks have an interest in politics but many are the radicals I speak of. Say "it's nice nature is getting a reprieve during the pandemic" and suddenly you're a racist, ecofascist that likes human death and "ignores capitalism" as though it works exclusive of humanity. Acknowledge the significance of biological sex and who fucking cares if you agree on ecological, economic, or social issues, or if you mostly support trans rights. You're now a transphobe, terf or whatever and you're getting cancelled.
Conservatives are too hung up on skydaddy (not that there aren't antivax lefties expecting to heal/protect themselves with potions, crystals or appeals to the stars and planets). While sensible they'll gladly deny science if you can convince them there's some hidden agenda behind it. To the extremes you get flat earthers, antivax, climate change denial (at least in so far as human-driven change) and so on. They're also slow to achieve anything except maybe expanding military budgets. What they don't realize, at least the blue collar ones, is whether a dem or republican gets elected it'll probably do fuckall to their tax bracket. If it is a dem who cares if their boss gets taxed harder? They're not gonna get the raise that they wouldn't have gotten anyway from a tax break that never trickles down?

But that's terrible, though. Just because a class is in some way under represented doesn't mean they're in peril as a result.
