Simply put, human nature precludes collectivism. There will always be people who are lazy, dishonest, or working to game any system. There will be people who will not settle for having only what someone else believes is "enough".
Also, there will be people who will want to work extra hard to have more for their families.
Innovation has no reward. Doing the bare minimum is what is expected.
