You should look at the historic events of the pilgrims and the Plymouth colony. Originally, the lands were all communal. Everyone was to share the work, and everyone was the benefit. Of course, there were lazy colonists, criminals, and people who tried to get more than he'd earned. It was a disaster. That's why they almost starved to death. The leaders took the radical step to divide up the land and allow each colonist family their own plot to work however they wanted. And then trade what they produced with their neighbors. The colony flourished.

This is the actual history. It is a prime example of how collectivism ultimately fails.

A prime example of this is cellphones. Not too long ago, we had smart phones running iOS, Android, Blackberry, and Windows OS. They competed and 2 failed. They're gone now because they did not successfully innovate. The remaining are successful because they are constantly improving the devices and the software to stay competitive. The companies and their investors make money, the consumers get better products, and the economy benefits.

Under socialism, innovation falls away. With no competition, there is no need to improve.
