Hey Yas Forums, it's been a long time since I came on Yas Forums.
This year I decided to leave America and go to China for university, I experienced alot of interesting things there.
Would anyone like to hear the story?
Or does anyone have questions about living in China in general?
Hey Yas Forums, it's been a long time since I came on Yas Forums

Nah I went to a different city
Yeah post it I'd like to hear more.
>be me
>be in hs
>KHHV loner and always bored
>decide to start studying chinese because the hanzi sooth my autism
>study for three years actually get pretty good at it
>senior year, despite repeated attempts shit hasn't really changed
>realize that if I stay in america nothing will ever change
>fuck it, I'm going to China
>take HSK test, apply to school, get in
>chinese unis are super easy to get into if you're american
>june comes, get on a flight to zhongguo
1/?
>get inna zhongguo for summer program
>realize everybody who isn't chinese almost exclusively hangs out only within their own group
>japs with japs, southeast asians, koreans etc
>the only american
>despite this, make friends with a korean guy (seoeun)
>he introduces me to the korean group
>korean girls are really really pretty
>i really like one of them (let's call her.. kyunghee)
>i go out with some of the korean guys and sing at ktv, we get super fucking drunk
>we go out for chuan after
>decide to tell them
Hey bros, I really really like Kyunghee, what should i do?
>they look at me and laugh
"bro, in korea she is not pretty, i really dont understand you"
"Also, she has a boyfriend, but she will break up with him soon, I will help you"
2/?
>seoeun helps me out and invites me to dinner with kyunghee and her friend (yoonmi)
>we talk and have fun
>they teach me about korean words and phrases (jonna ssibbal)
>we decide to go back to drink in my room
>they take out a bottle of soju
>we play korean drinking games
>koreans have a really well developed drinking culture
>also my alcohol tolerance is shit
>after a couple shots of soju I'm already tipsy while the koreans arent even buzzed
>they decide that im too drunk to continue, so we all leave and go to sleep
>now i have friends i guess
>later in the week one of the other guys invite me about to drink with a group of koreans (geonji)
>i get there, geonji is pretty cool (turns out he's an ilbe user lol)
>i notice that the other koreans, they kinda look at me a bit weird, and aren't really interested in talking to me
>weird, but whatever
>bars in china give free alcohol to foreigners, i drink my free beers then leave
3/?
Continue continue
I show my interest with an original comment
>decide to go to another city on the weekend to go to a manzhan
if any of you are ever in china, go to manzhan, basically chinese anime conventions, super super fun and no foreigners know about it
>invite kyunghee with me, she says to invite more friends
>invite seoeun, yoonmi and geonji
>they agree
>the day before we go,at around 11 PM, kyunghee tells me she can't go because her friends want her to go drinking instead
>reply to her on kakaotalk
It's totally fine, have fun!
>go to manzhan in other city, tons of pretty girls cosplaying, have tons of fun
Random culture tip: In Asia (especially to koreans and japanese) never ever ever, even jokingly call yourself Otaku or imply that you are. Calling yourself Otaku in Asia is like an American calling himself a pedophile, don't do it.
4/?
I have been thinking of learning an East Asian language during quarantine. Would you recommend Mandarin? Is the script easier than other East Asian languages?
>seoeun comes over to my room to drink
>invite kyunghee over
>she has problems with her boyfriend or something so she can't come
>tell her it's okay
>we keep drinking our qingdao
>have dinner with seoeun basically everyday, so we become good friends
>a week later, decide to invite geonji over to drink, along with kyunghee
>the day of, geonji cancels and tells me to go over to the bar to drink
>ask kyunghee what she things, no reply
>at this point, i'm kinda pissed cuz she's done this for like weeks
>i say:
Look, I've tried to hang out with you for three weeks, and... I don't really think you care.
So, I'm not gonna try anymore
Have fun at the club
>send it
>immediately geonji deletes his invite text
>kyunghee replies with
I know you tried to fit in with us, but I have a boyfriend, I can't really hang out with you, i'm sorry
>cry and drink myself to sleep
>stay in my room for two days
>seojun knocks on my door and comes in with some qingdao
bro... I saw that text you sent Kyunghee... ahhh that was really bad......
>kyunghee thinks i am creepy as fuck, she thinks i will rape her, all the korean girls hate me and refuse to hang out with me
5/?
idk guys, what do you think? did i really fuck up that hard?
which culture are you more interested in?
Mandarin
>memorizing hanzi is a big time investment, but it's not really difficult
>grammar is easy
>lots of chinese willing to practice their language with you
>hardest language to speak well because of tones
> easier to learn korean and japanese
Korean
>you can learn hangeul in a day
>everything else is super fucking difficult, like japanese on steroids
>if you like drinking this is a good language to learn
Japanese
>easy pronunciation
>kana is not that bad
>kanji takes time, but is easier if you know chinese
>probably the hardest script to learn
mandarin is definitely to easiest to learn i mean, if you learn chinese it'll make other languages, especially japanese much easier
Retarded slant eye bitch. Forget about her and find another one there are literally a billion of them dont beat yourself up
I love both Chinese and Japanese history so I will decide between the two, I might pick mandarin if it is easier
Hanfu is the saddest fucking larp. I appreciate that the Japanese have managed to hold on to their clothing against Western borderless neoliberal corporate-mandated oneness.
t. Zhang
>idk guys, what do you think? did i really fuck up that hard?
Was that the end of the story, or is there more?
if you really like chinese history, there are tons of chinese historical dramas and shit, hanfu (traditional chinese clothing) is also experiencing a revival among the younger generation. if you ever need recommendations feel free to ask.
thanks user
>after that shit happens become really good friends with seoeun
>we go out and travel together across the city
>he gets a chinese gf, tries to help me get one
>go into the uni library, get a notebook and write in chinese "i think you are cute, can i add your wechat?"
>there's this one that's kinda pretty
>seoeun looks at me
bro... she's a fucking pig...
i cannot believe you actually a girl like that holy shit...
>whatever, give it to her
>she gives me one look, says "sorry" and keeps reading
>all the indonesian kids at the other table see me and laugh at me
>shit
>try again over the course of a month
>get like six different rejections
>actually works on one girl
>ask her to have lunch with me, keeps dodging
>she tells me a week later that she can't go because she has a date with her boyfriend
fuck
6/?
I admit, a lot of chinese people don't seem to know how to wear hanfu, they wear it with like tennis shoes and glasses and shit and it's kinda cringe.
If they wear it right it's really pretty though.
i admit, i expected it to be easier to get a gf in china
even if you can speak chinese it's kinda hard
this doesn't apply if you're white or asian
>the semester is about to start
>basically spend that time clubbing and going to ktv
>seoeun teaches me how to sing koreans songs
>apparently this song is used to confess to korean girls
youtube.com
>decide to join a club
>cosplay club has qt 3.14 cosplay girls at the booth
>auto join
>join guzheng club and game making club
>go with seoeun to meet some new chinese friends
>one of them is in the cosplay club too and offers to introduce me
>another one of them is a pretty good guitarist, seoeun is a pianist and another dude is amazing at the drums
>we decide to start a band, they appoint me bassist and give me a bass, even though i have literally never touched a bass
7/?
Japonaise didn't have a cultural revolution to deal with IIRC.
>they appoint me bassist and give me a bass, even though i have literally never touched a bass
Yeah because the bass player is literally for decoration.
>this doesn't apply if you're white or asian
Nigga are you black? I've been imagining you as a fat white guy
Anyways, you seem to try a fair share, that's good, you have balls, you will definitely find someone
It was already in steep decline before Mao's Big It's Just A Prank Bro Revolution. Everything hanfu today belongs in the Chinese equivalent of a Ren Faire or a cosplay convention.
Shit really? Damn and they told me I was good kek
I'm latino, apparently i look indian to chinese, and I'm not fat
>go to the cosplay club
>fucking sausage fest
>20 guys and five girls
>the girls aren't even cute
>fuckthis.jpeg
>go with them anyway, to watch a movie, The Legend of Hei, it's actually pretty fucking good
Chinese media is actually getting better by the year, yall should check it out
>in math class
>see a qt 3.14 korean girl
>second week decide to sit next to her
>turns out she transferred out of the class shit
>i met her friend though
>we talk, she seems cool, we share kakaotalk
>help her friend with homework
>ask her to introduce me to her friend
uhhh... she already transferred out of the class. kkkk
>well, she probably doesn't want to, oh well
>be in other math class
>the qt 3.14 is in this class shit shit shit shit
>she sits next to my korean friends, i go up to her and ask to sit next to her
>she says go ahead, we introduces ourselves, my korean bros are silently cheering me on
>get her kakaotalk, fuck yes
>talk to her alot, we agree to go to noraebang/ktv together with friends
>ask her if she has a boyfriend
unfortunately no.....
>yesss, we talk about plastic surgery in korea, then i tell her
Hey, your eyes are super cute, please don't get surgery :)
>she replies
awwwwww thank you
>almost there. send a reply
Hey, i know it's finals week, but if you ever need to eat dinner and don't have anyone else to go with, let me know, it's cheaper if we eat together kkkk
>no reply
>wait a week, no reply
>day before we are supposed to go to ktv together, literally 11:59 PM
>Hey...uh... I know we were supposed to play together, and we planned it for a while.. but i have to do a project with my groupmates, so can we go another time?
Yeah sure, what time is good? how about wednesday?
>Uhh, i have kpop dance club on that day.
How about the weekend?
>I also have kpop dance club
So... you never have free time?
>yeah....
8/?
>apparently i look indian
Oh dear. This series of stories will not have a good ending.
What's the communism like OP? I heard if you work in the private sector, especially in factories, working conditions are godawful but the public sector is pretty nice. Been toying with the notion of moving myself and maybe being an english teacher or something.
i can't really speak that much from the working side. From what I hear, it shouldn't be that much of an issue as long as you don't discuss politics or plan protests or shit like that.
Don't talk shit about the chinese government and you're good.
That being said, communist propaganda has become more common since Xi took power (from what I hear). If you're a teacher at an international school, you shouldn't have problems. At a chinese school, you'll definitely see some "differences" in work culture, but I don't know too much about that.
Damn op. You keep trying and you keep getting burnt. You're like a shounen protag. I'm invested now and i wanna see you have a victory. And how come your korean bff has such high standards?
youtu.be
What do you mean?
>i say something i probably shouldn't have
Look... I kinda see where this is going.. if you're still interested in talking to me, then talk to me in class, cya
>delete her
>go out with friends and get drunk as fuck on somaek (soju + cass beer)
>alcohol tolerance is still shit, koreans can drink seven shots and be not even buzzed
>meanwhile im in the ktv bathroom with the chinese throwing up
>we sing songs and shit
>tell seoeun about that happened
ahhh... you really do not understand hangugin ...
I will tell you, koreans only want to play with other koreans, they will not accept foreigners
Me and geonji are different, i dropped out of high school to study in hagwon, geonji's used to be insider, but his school was run by a christian cult, so we cannot relate to them
i do not recommend you go for korean yeoja...
go for chinese instead bro...
>I text the girl again
Hey I'm really sorry about what I said, but it kinda feels like you don't want to hang out with me
>Umm, it kinda seems like you wanted to hang out alone with me... I'm really sorry but we are not close enough...
Uhh, i told you I would invite friends though?
>she didn't respond after that
The average korean girl is insanely pretty, in comparison to chinese girls.
A korean 3/10 would be like a chinese 6/10
Personalities are a different story, chinese girls tend to be chill and not afraid to speak up, koreans are kinda cliquey and not nice to be around... kinda bad personalities in general
>What do you mean?
Not even Indians like Indians. The fact you look like a pooinloo means you are shit out of luck, and this greentext cannot have a happy ending
>see korean girl with another guy in math class
>fuck it, gotta find another girl
>another class is starting around this time halfway through the semester
>seoeun is in this class too, we sit together and another chinese girl comes and sits next to me
>she's kinda cute, we talk, turns out she's from dongbei
>a week after ask for her wechat, she accepts
>we text, i only talk in mandarin so they are more comfortable with talking with me
>ask her to hang out together
uhh, singles day just passed so i don't really have any money, maybe another time?
>Culture tip: singles day (11.11) is basically black friday in america, people spend a shit ton of money on this day
>hey it's no problem, I'll pay for you
I would rather pay for myself
>week later, school is hosting event
>hey would you like to go with me to this event
I dont have time, im studying for an english test
>I'm american lol, I can help you study if you want
>no reply
10/?
Honestly, I agree that chinese in general do not look on Indians that well. But, it pisses me off when people say that, latinos and indians are completely different people, like calling a chinese and nigerian the same.
You might be right, but even if I have to fail forever, I'd rather go out and find out myself, I'd rather fail and know I tried, than to be a pussy
>latinos and indians are completely different people
Sure. They look different over here. But its much the same as a lot of western people would not be able tell the difference between thais and Malaysians
>school hosts a homecoming event
>decide to go, get a suit and everything
>wait shit, i don't have a partner
>no problem, school has an option to hook you up with a partner if you sign up
>get assigned with a partner from the far west province of xinjiang
>go meet up with her to practice dancing
>.......she's kinda ugly......
>shit......
>and she smells kinda bad too
>well whatever, beggars cant be choosers
>we practice dancing
>day of the dance comes
>we meet up, im wearing a suit looking fly as fuck
>she literally shows up in anime cosplay looking like an anime little bo beep
>literally what the fuck
>she still smells bad
>also she's the same height (chinese girls are picky about height)
>well, fuck it let's dance
>we get in, start dancing
>i can tell she's not really interested, it's kinda awkward
>tell her to try dancing with other dudes
"but user... i don't know them..."
>"well yeah, that's what a dance is for"
>we split up, try asking another girl to dance
"I'm sorry, but i don't know you"
>shit, they take this shit seriously
>a qt girl wearing hanfu comes up asking me to dance
>fuck yes, we dance have fun
>the song changes from classical music to club dancing
>i'm the only foreigner here
>start dancing with this chinese guy
>the entire fucking crowd forms a circle around me and the dude and we floss and breakdance
>the crowd shouts "WAIGUOREN WAIGUOREN"
>constant cheering
>all of the sudden, the kpop dance group comes up on stage
Culture tip: kpop dance groups are the east asian equivalent of cheerleaders in schools
>a distant shout of "YEEEEPEUUUUDAEEEE" can be heard in the distance
>dance until i can't no longer
>that was fun as fuck, get the wechat of the hanfu girl and go back to my room
11/?
bump ill update soon doing something
I'm listening OP, you tell your story well
thanks user, updating
>text the qt chinese hanfu girl
>she agrees to hang out with me
>we eat chinese food and go to a bookstore
>we read together and helps me with novels
>she says she has to go back and do homework
>we take a didi, and i realize
>she literally looks like she's 12
>i aint a pedo.... but she's cool i guess
>a bit later. she gifts me a book
>eventually the school hosts an event, a hanfu festival at a water village
>i'm really into chinese history, so i sign up
>the girl signs up too, and offers to help me pick out a hanfu
>we go up to my room, hang out for hours trying to figure out what to buy
>fuck, she's actually kinda pretty..
>i decide, she leaves
>i arrive on the morning of the event to a bus that's supposed to take us to the town
>im hungover as fuck
>she sits next to me and we start watching chinese historical dramas together
>we arrive, i have to room with three other chinese dudes, one of them has the same hanfu as me
>shit, whatever, we go out to eat
>the dudes aren't really interested in talking to me, but whatever
>Next morning, we go out to the festival
>The girl comes (let's call her, jinyao)
>Jinyao takes this hanfu shit seriously, she's really really pretty, she looks like a girl from a historical drama
>She looks and me and says
Hhh... you are really handsome...
>Haha... you're really pretty too...
>We walk together, spend our time talking and taking pictures
If any of you guys are ever in China, go to the Xitang hanfu festival, it's one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen, it's the closest feeling to time travel you will ever get.
>pretty girls in hanfu all around an amazing river town
>we go out to eat and hang out with the group and the other dudes that i ditched
>it's really hard to hang out with them, they make constant references i don't get
>the other dude that wore the same hanfu as me in looking towards Jinyao with that look
>afterwards we go back to the school
>we hang out again a week later at an ice rink
12/?
>this same dude comes along with the group
>this dude makes every effort he can to be with Jinyao
>and.. it's still kinda hard to hang out with them
>excuse myself and leave early
>one week later, hanging out with my korean friend byeongji
>get a text
>it's Jinyao
>Hey... I just got a boyfriend!
fuck
13/?
i'm surprised you still can recall all these rejections
Fuck that guy. But she would have known that you were trying to court her. Yet she still chose chang.
>haha...that's so cool! gongxi!!
>maskwojack.jpeg
>tell this to my nigga byeongji
>this nigga is a badass, went to rural idaho for high school at 14 not even knowing english, got built as fuck, tatted up, got a 9/10 white girlfriend and dumped her, only reason he isn't in america is because his parents forced him to go to china
>tells me to just not think about her
>pull up a pic on my phone, another korean girl i saw in my class
"dude, ok fuck it, i will go for this girl next, do you have faith in me?"
>he takes a look
>"nigga.. she looks like kimchi nyeon (kimchi bitch) she is not attractive
"fuck that, you think i can get her?"
>he thinks for a second
>"Lol nigga idk"
>math class comes around
>fuck i'm too nervous to talk to her, she hangs out around her group of girls
>walk out
>the same girl (minseo) comes out and we are both walking in the same direction
>turn over and ask
"Hey, are y-you in the same class as me?"
>"Haha yeah!"
>We talk a bit, she seems cool, we go our own ways
>wait shit... I didn't get her Kakao..
>go to my nigga Seoeun, he's in with them so he gets me her wechat
>ever since the summer i'd been learning korean on the side, so talk to her in korean
>she's impressed apparently
>her friend is in one of my other classes and seoeun knows her
>we're out getting food at the night stalls when her friend shows up
>they go up and ask for her to introduce me to minseo
>says something like "Uhhh... I will think about it"
>drives off
>Seoeun turns to me and says "bro, you should treat her friend well"
>His new korean girlfriend turns to me and wishes me luck
>a week later, text minseo's friend
"Hey, could you give me advice about Minseo?"
>no response
>well..maybe she's busy....
>one month later
>Minseo hasn't responded to my last text either
>Tell my nigga Seoeun about it
"bro... that means they don't want to talk to you"
>I had barely even texted her, not even enough time to say anything autistic
>fuck
14/?
these all happened pretty recently, so it's pretty fresh in my mind
>go to guzheng club meeting
>two other girls there, but they all go off because they have assignments or something
>only one with the instructor
>she's the same year as me though
>she's really really pretty. and taller than me lol
>i'm fucking terrible at the guzheng, so whenever we practice she forcefully takes my hand and tries to put the nails me
>it's kinda funny
>one day, she asks me a question
>user... do think I'm pretty?
wtf... uhh yeah you're really pretty how come?
>she looks around
>well.....
>she tells me how she broke up with her boyfriend and she has a new crush
>she goes to her phone
>her wallpaper is literally a pic of chubby blonde dude
>turns out, he's her fucking english teacher and she's trying to get with him
>she constantly asks him out to dinner, or his wechat
>nigga isn't trying to catch a case so he dodges every time
>She asks me for advice because we are both American
>I wanna be polite, so I tell her:
Well, he's way older than you so you probably shouldn't date him, and he's your teacher, in America it's wrong for students to date their teacher
>Well... but I don't care! He's so handsome and nice..
>nigga literally looks like a white dude that came straight out of Yas Forums
>fuck this.. whatever ill just help her out
well, next semester he won't be your teacher right? then you can just ask him
>she thanks me, and goes off
>gets back with her bf anyways
i think she had mental problems idk

Not reading all your bullshit, but if you haven't already, you should try Taiwan. I lived there for almost 3 years. It seemed like a Japanized version of china, which was kind of cool, but it really does stand as its own thing from the others (s.korea, japan, china). From my experience, the women there are very career-driven, but pretty open to dating.
lol, I hear Taiwan is pretty lit too, I'll definitely check it out when I have the chance.
it's an overlooked gem imo compared to s.korea and japan
Damn op keep going
There just has to be a happy ending
Don't forget about Singapore
alright this will wrap up soon
>go to other club meeting, game making club, i go there make friends, etc
>we play games and shit
>there's one girl thats kinda qt
>go up to talk to her
>all of the sudden this fatass chinese dude comes up
>try to ask her what her name is
>the dude comes up and says, her name or my name?
>wtf
uhhhh
>guy says: heh, so you wanna talk to her and not me? of course, typical
>literally who the fuck is this cockblocking nigga
>don't want to be awkward, so talk to the guy and the girl walks off
>leave pissed
>finals rolls around
>see minseo again, she doesn't even acknowledge me
>finals are whatever
>after last test go out with korean friends and get blind drunk on somaek, go to ktv and yell out korean songs
>completely failed at getting a gf
>day i leave to pudong airport
>go on train
>girl from game making club is there, sitting by herself
>alright fuck this is my time
>talk to her, get her wechat
>get out, say goodbye
>start texting her
>she couldn't be less interested
>say to myself:
all right, you completely fucked up first semester, but there's always second semester, then I can definitely get a girlfriend......
then coronavirus happened
and now im stuck back in america
fuck this

END
What did you guys think?
I think that if you aren't asian or white, you won't be able to pick up girls in Asia. Any minority on this board who says otherwise is role playing.
Also, I admire your tenacity and sticktoitiveness.
i speak mandarin and japanese (as well as a little bit of korean)
honestly japanese is my favourite but that's mainly because of literature
OP I would have given up after girl one. You have a resolve of steel
Thanks for sharing, OP.
You've certainly got the gumption, but maybe you'll have better luck with a less direct approach.
Keep trying to be involved in mixed group activities. For someone in your position, social proof may well be the deciding factor.
See if you can get a girl to hook you up, or at least point you toward a suitable match. Might not hurt to let some female friends know that
>it's hard to find Chinese girls who want to date a gweilo
Just don't post that in a group chat.
>Japanese have managed to hold on to their clothing against Western borderless neoliberal corporate-mandated oneness
no they haven't
they were like the first to drop it you weeb
They still wear kimono and yukata as a matter of course. Yes they've adopted wearing the bog standard two-piece business suit and t-shirt and blue jeans but they also have an indigenous alternative that isn't a larp.
nice read op, you have a very strong will and are doing many things right. i hope things work out for you after this corona chan shit
Went to Taiwan to study hanyu myself, now I'm fucking stuck back here taking video classes from Harbin. Shit sucks bro, glad im not the only one with this feel, Taiwan was incredible.
yo are you from america too?
why are stuck in that shithole harbin?
seriously taiwan would be safer
well the chinks also wear their shirts and robes sometimes
that's not the same
