I respect the idea of DRM-free but has anyone actually bought a game off GOG?

Nope. Nobody has ever bought a video game from gog.

Yes

I did, for a few dollars.

Jazz 1/2, Epic Pinball, and the Tomb Raiders/Descent.

Everything else has been GoG connect (though I don't have the Witcher 3/GotY from that while 1/2 were), or free/giveaways.

yes but i set my location to ukraine so i could buy the game for 60% off even though there was no sale

got a few, a lot of them were free
world in conflict is an absolute gem and its only available on GOG

I almost buy from them exclusively. I refuse to buy something on steam if it's available on GOG.

I got around 180 games atm

How come? Curious

>buy game off Steam
>part of the Steam community, friends see when you play it, tracks your time played, Steam trading cards

>buy game off GoG
>paying for air

I only buy games that come with achievements

I get my games to play them, not for the social aspect of it.

I've bought many. Lots of old games and The Witcher 3. You also can't buy FEAR on steam.

I do it. For the most part, I only buy games on GOG.com, itch.io and Humble Store and the rare game in Steam if it is too cheap (like Alien: Isolation and Ducktales Remastered).

Yeah, tons. Pretty much any time I want a game I check GOG first. If they have it, I buy it there without question. Even if it is cheaper elsewhere, I don't mind paying a few bucks extra for a good service.

>part of the Steam community
gog community is far, far better
>friends see when you play it, tracks your time played
just use gog galaxy if you care about that stuff, you can use it for other clients on there

I did when GOG was new but now I just use:

freegogpcgames.com

I got almost 200 games on GoG.

I bought VTMB and Dragon age on GOG. Plus quite a few more that I'm forgetting.

>part of the Steam community
That's a negative, Steam's is horrible.
>friends see when you play it, tracks your time played
Gog doees that
>Steam trading cards
lol
>anime avatar
Of course.

Yes, I buy off GOG first if it's available and then steam if it isn't.

I have most of my games off gog, the only ones I buy on steam anymore are the games that for sure won't ever make it to gog

I prefer GOG. Back when I still left the house I'd split games with friends so we could both support and play the official, up to date, release for half the price.
>t-that's still piracy
Oh well. I still buy plenty just for myself. Matter of fact I often pirate a game first because I'm not sure about it then buy it. That's what I did with battle brothers.
I like supporting when I have the cash and I like being able to pirate when I don't.

Naturally my Steam library is way bigger but that's because I used to buy some new piece of shit every fortnight when I was younger and the money flowed.
These days I'm VERY particular about what I waste my time on.

>part of the steam community
I have all this shit turned off. I have turned on steam chat like 20 times in the last year because there's some people I specifically only have contact with through steam now. Otherwise I'd rather none of those metrics or money stealing gimmicks exist.
>muh cheivos
I got over that in (what I assume is the equivalent to American) middle school

apparently not many do cause they barely break even every year

GoG version of a game just means "extremely easy to pirate version"

It's my preferred store. I only bother with other launchers when (legit) key sites like GMG or Gamersgate have a good sale. The ability to easily pirate their games has greatly impacted my purchasing decisions. Within an hour of playing the pirated version I know if its something I want to buy, something I want to wait to play, or something I just don't even want to play. Since their pirated games end up on your Galaxy client's games list right away when I decide I do like the game I don't even have to redownload it which makes supporting both the devs and GoG even more convenient.

Bought Fallout 1 and 2 on there for a steal.

Nope, but I sure am glad GOG exists, because it makes it way easier to pirate pc games

Yes.

Yep plenty. I'm not a poorfag. I generally buy off GOG when I can.

>no Microsoft games
>no Japanese publishers/games (besides that GOG.com-exclusive Street Fighter and SNK Playmore)
>no SEGA games
>no AAA games
>missing several updates and multiplayer on a bunch of games
>no Tetris games
The absolute state.

They need to break into a wider audience and challenge Steam more, most normies and zoomers especially have never even heard of gog

No, because it sounds too much like zog

I've bought plenty off of GoG. They have a pretty decent library of P&C adventure games and it's a genre I generally have no issue supporting financially.

Having said that I have also pirated quite a few games that come from GoG as well. Probably half of them I have gone back and bought afterwards.

Like 30 games
I share with friends if they're interested

I bought Roller coaster tycoon 2 cuz it wasnt on steam at the time and i lost my old disc version. I literally have gog just for that game which is on steam now so I'll probably just rebuy it on there when it goes on sale.

r8 my gog
pls no buly

They've carved a niche for themselves by offering something Steam does not, and they'vve been there for years now.

Meanwhile all the big publishers who tried to compete with Steam head on are returning like a bitch, and even Epic is losing steam (heh).

They don't need the wider audience of Denuvo-infested triple A shit.

Yeah I bought a few games, it's a nice option for older PC games.

I bought a few off their. I fucking hate the GOG galaxy thing though. Why can't I just get the files and a executable? Why the fuck does everything need some bullshit launcher like steam?

>paying top dollar for abandon ware with a DOSbox front end
LOL

GOG is definitely the superior service, and I have about 50 games from them. No DLC, no launcher required; they're the most consumer-friendly option. You can live like we did before you needed a program to manage and run all your games. However, I have nearly 400 games on Steam because Steam has far better sales. Is this hypocritical? Yes.

What I don't understand though, and don't use, is grey market key sellers. I guess if you want to have a "legit" copy so that you can play multiplayer, they make sense. But for anything else, it seems like the worst of both worlds - you have a copy that the seller does not consider legitimate and (admittedly, this hasn't really happened yet) could revoke at will, and you also paid money for it for some reason. At that point, just fucking pirate it.

Where's SWAT4/10

They could offer reverse engineer services for old Japanese console games in exchange of temporary exclusivity in their store.
Final Fantasy VII could use a proper source port.

>abandonware
Nice meme term. Steam sells "abandonware" too.

wish I could, but the difference between my local currency and burgerbucks is too much to buy on gog while its way cheaper on steam
to me a game on a 50% sale on gog costs the same as one on steam without any discount, so far I only got the witcher trilogy when it was on 95% with a coupon, and offworld trading company and outward at like 75%

I have over 100 games on gog.
I only have 30 games on my steam account

Do not bully GOG-chan.

>Nice meme term
This. "Abondonware" does not exist, and never has.

as expected of a hamsterposter

>Why can't I just get the files and a executable?
you can, choose download offline backup game installers

>online "community"

>Why can't I just get the files and a executable?

You stttill can. The launcher is optional.

In practice abandonware exists, but only applies to old games that are no longer sold. This obviously is not the case with any old games sold on GOG.com, Steam or any other store.

the wider audience doesn't care about the no drm principle, they love their subscriptions
you would need like a year internet blackout for them to care about owning stuff without depending on anyone else beyond the first download

>being this jewish

I bought star wars battlefront 2

at least in GOG you get to keep your game forever right? unlike steam?

Attached: 1415446224416.jpg (311x300, 23.88K)

yes most of my gog games are classic. but i got kingdom come, witcher 3, greedfall, and rimworld from there. will get vtmb2 from there if by some miracle it turns out to be a good game.
