If they did what they plan on doing for part 2 but the opposite and for the first half of the game we play as Abby I could maybe get behind that and we switch over to Ellie about 2 hours before she kills Joel it would at least give the players a chance to care about Abby rather than just have her show up kill Joel and then play as her later.
