So even after FF7R, this is still Square's best game in the past several years right?

FF7R was a complete dumpster fire that only the blindest of fanatics could ever defend, so absolutely. We're lucky that the Enix people never actually had to mix themselves with any of the many Square hacks.

Square didn't even develop it

You mean Enix's best. Square had nothing to do with it and it shows.

Yeah because its not Square

Yes.
DQ is the only thing good that ever comes out of SE in recent years.

After all these years, there are still people who believe Squaresoft and Enix are separate companies working under the same roof.
The delusion is real.

What was even the point of the Square-Enix merger? The companies act completely independently from each other.

PROTIP: Enix never developed any Dragon Quest games. After the merge, SquareEnix never developed any Dragon Quest games either. It has always been outsourced. Enix/SquareEnix simply have an exclusive publishing deal, and even that fell through for a long time with Nintendo having to publish the games in the west.

They did DQX and DQXI were coded internally
SE just supplied the code monkeys though

I think it was because Square was on the peak of FF's popularity back then, so Enix had quite a lot to win by merging with them The mistake was still going through with it even though Square had just released that piece of shit movie that was a clear sign of things to come.

Yes because not a single decision regarding the game design was made by SE but by Armor Project, Horii´s studio
And it fucking shows

It’s interesting to think that all during the 90’s and early 2000’s, FF was heavily praised for its constant innovation and exploring new grounds in JRPGs, while DQ was kind of looked down upon for making the same games over and over.

Nowadays, it seems like most people think FF has turned into a mess, while DQ’s simplicity and sticking to tradition is a welcome breath of fresh air.

It's so sad this game received little attention and lasting presence.

They could have used the momentum to perhaps speed up dev time and get another main game out faster.

Well Enix was a hair away from going totally bankrupt, the merger saved their asses for the most part

Square was dying from the movie
Enix suits saw the opportunity to take over their rival
But then decided to put the Square suits in power of the merger because Enix had ever managed to penetrate the west which is where the big money is
The rest is history

Still doesn't make sense. The SE name slapped on the box of a DQ game has done jack shit for the DQ series. They've always been shit hot in Japan, but get shortchanged on international releases with limited copies being released.

Turns out that a good game is a good game and you dont have to change shit if the formula was already perfect
Megaman 11 was fucking fantastic and it plays like it was made in 87

I think the time they take is fine. They're still putting them out faster than FFs, and they're infinitely better games to boot.

too long. who the fuck wants a 100 hour game

I loved this game and I'm waiting for a price drop on the Switch version before I do a second run.

Sucks we won't see XII for a while.

Me
>100 hour RPG full of adventures
THAT SOUNDS FUCKING BASED

>waiting for a Switch game to price drop
>a Switch game that was licensed by Nintendo
You are gonna be waiting for a while for that second play through

ok boomer

>blindest of fanatics could ever defend
Funny, becaue it's the autistic purist fags that are the only ones attacking it.

I guess that's true. I guess I could use all my pandemic government money to splurge.

All RPGS arent for you

You can easily finish it in 40-50 hours.

I still think it’s a shame DQV never made it Stateside during SNES’s hay day.

If it did I really think everyone would put it up there with the rest of the SNES greats, like FF6 and Chrono Trigger.

I hope you meant '89 because the original Mega Man was dogshit.

Square and Enix are as seperate is EA and BiowarEA

zoom zoom

I still need to be fully complete Act 3. I would have beaten a while ago but I'm a turbo autist who needs to get the best gear for everyone.

Nah its great for a first attempt.

>FF6 and Chrono Trigger.
Those games never came out in Europe
For us its Lufia 2 and Terranigma

The problem always was that very little people ever knew DQ existed. Nowadays more and more people are discovering that while FF lost its way, DQ is what kept making the same kind of games that made FF great in the first place.

I guess it's all about financial stability. Have in mind that FF has been consistently selling millions on brand recognition alone for the past 20 years, which is the last time they made a decent game.

whew, imagine spreading misinformation.
the reality is that Spirits Within almost killed a merger that was already close to finalization, not the other way around.
in fact, it was until Square picked themselves up following their near bankruptcy that Enix followed through.
in short, Square and Enix were both Jewish corporations Hell bent on anything but making quality video games long before their coming together to form a homogenized superpower that has ruined an entire genre and several other unrelated IPs.
stop supporting the Shinra of video games.

Apparently the Switch version of XI is getting pretty decent sales, wonder if the whole “pandemic everyone stay home and find something to do” shit is helping with that.

I tried the 2D mode and didn't know it would erase all my progress. I don't want to restart
