>It's not real so it's bad!
Can someone explain the thought process behind this?
It's not real so it's bad!
shut up let me run away from my problems and never fix them
It's bad in the same way a Crab escaping from the bag full of crabs is bad to the crabs, except in this case the Crab wouldn't be escaping, but under the illusion of escaping, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Giving up is okay, the world has enough people for you to never be valuable. Enjoy yourself no matter how delusional it may be.
The degree to which you use something to "escape" is what matters. Playing a game or watching tv is fine but some people take it too far and neglect their lives because escaping to a fake world is easier.
Stories are meant to make you think about IRL things, or yourself. Pure escapism is 100% bad. You are just a bitch IRL meanwhile, which is a bad thing to be.
how much escapism are we talking about here
I think the idea is: running away from your problems to live in a fantasy world is bad because you're not handling the problems themselves - it's a bad coping mechanism because it doesn't help you actually deal with the problem.
Except that's not always true. Lots of people come out of these little escapes refreshed and ready to tackle the problem for real even better than if they had been "troopers" and not given themselves time to decompress. Sometimes the problem isn't the kind that you can "face" and "solve" and this escape helps you function in spite of the problem. Sometimes you did everything you need to do, handled all your responsibilities and you just want to play some fucking video games.
Life can be horrible nightmare, sometimes taking a break is the smart thing to do. But also, living in a fantasy world all the time and ignoring your responsibilities is weak and lazy. Basically, moderation.
If it feels the same, what's the problem?
Nigger, he has no solvable problem. He's a fucking cripple
The problem is that they're not actually the same.
