Basically all of sexual reproduction is "hybrid vigor", otherwise we would just clone ourselves. Sexual reproduction implies mixing different DNA and it is better. It's better because "sometimes" the random mix produces Chad and Stacies offspring, but also horrible incel mutants, this is statistical chance. Hybrid-vigour is only a thing for inbred populations that have repeatedly reinforced the same disadvantageous traits over and over again, resulting in a far greater negative. The best examples are dog breeds which are continued through a very small breeding pool by breeders, the mixing of which has warped the breed often beyond recognition and exaggerated once insignificant differences to the point of causing serious health problems; examples of Labradors having bad hips or bulldogs having flag noses are the most well known. Selective breeding can also produce eugenic results, although 'hybrid-vigour' refers specifically to over-coming those that are dysgenic.
By introducing a dog that is not from the same small inbred pool, it is likely that the offspring will not be plagued by such an extreme weakness; thus bull-dogs + another dog often have better defined noses and can breathe better, and labradors + another dog will often not have the same hip issues.
It is only severely inbred animals that have accrued and reinforced negative traits that benefit from 'hybrid vigour'. Mixing with animals that are too different can lead to a lot of other issues and instabilities, and is particularly noticeable in regards to resistance to various diseases; often animals localised to certain regions develop immunities over several generations; the mixed spawn will often be lacking the immunities accrued on BOTH sides, making it far more vulnerable than a 'pure-breed' of either variant.
The optimal breeding partner is a third cousin. They are similar enough that all benefits will be kept whilst different enough not to compound any negative traits.

Sexual reproduction is a way to quickly eliminate deleterious alleles from a population. If your offspring get two copies of the same shitty gene, they get filtered out. The crossover and the recombination of chromosomes during meiosis also creates a more diverse mix of traits in your offspring. The downside is regression to the mean of the population. Hence why hybrid vigor often doesn't last for many generations. Outbreeding depression is when both parents are strongly adapted to their respective habitat, but their offspring will be adapted to neither.
