We live in a constitutial republic--not a democracy. The best way to fix the democratic aspect of the constitutional republic would be to increase the voting age to 25. The human brain isn't done growing until then--literal retards shouldn't be allowed to vote.

I think there needs to be some kind of vetting procedure for politicians to see if they are acceptable. In order to run in an election you have to be approved by a council of wise men. Of course the problem would be how do you pick the council members?
