RYM and Black Metal

No you can't because even the highest rated of those are usually around 3.90, whereas most of top 10 are around 3.70 by the end of the year.
Black Metal always remains at around 4.00 while retaining low amounts of total ratings.

It's easier to maintain a higher average if the amount of ratings is low.
The reason why nu-males are interested in metal in the first place is because it's a niche genre. It gives them exotic points. They crowd around certain releases that specifically target the nu-male audience.
narrow appeal + circlejerking = high ratings

The over appreciation Im Wald gets in comparison to the rest of Paysage d'Hivers discography has become a bit too much. While it's nice to get new PdH, it doesn't really feel like anything to. Looking at the discography as a whole, Im Wald is hardly noticeable.

Well, no shit, it's because they're less known, retard, of course there's going to be higher average with less total ratings.

>It's easier to maintain a higher average if the amount of ratings is low.
I know, but it also means that on average people rate black metal higher than other types of music. That being said, only people who already like black metal listen to black metal.

>there's such a thing as metal tourism?
People who listen to the garbage on this chart have even worse taste and are more clueless than Sabaton fan-tier metalheads, so yeah it exists.

There is nothing wrong with Gorguts and Death dude. You're a hipster faggot bitch.

No? It means that there is a very narrow niche of black metal that is currently popular with specific audiences.
The releases on this chart are not representative of black metal in general.
What you are saying is redundant and completely meaningless. Yes, if someone "listens" to a certain type of music that implies that they like it or are interested in it. What is that supposed to prove?

Start listening to BM releases and critique the albums yourself, expand the sample, and bring the rating down if it irritates you.

This is very true. Quite a few bands come to mind. I will say right now is simply a good time for black metal and there's a lot of activity in general - good and bad work being produced. The same was true with stoner metal in the 2000s and drone in the early 2010s.

If it seems like there's a disproportionately large number of highly rated BM albums atm - yeah, there are. It's a good time for the style.

Maybe it's really just a better genre than most stuff on RYM. I look on there and the top music is usually some collection of samples and beat loops, or it's some indie band with all the musical skill of a dog farting into a kazoo. At least metal is made by talented musicians.
