RYM and Black Metal

Why do people who listen to metal and especially black metal tend to overrate albums so much?
Every single year you see a bunch of black metal albums in the top 10 shortly after their release because everyone who listens to that kind of music either rates it #4 or #5.
Of course they always have very low numbers of total votes too.

Pic related are top 2-4 of 2020.
#9 and #12 are also black metal.

People who like this garbage don't listen to metal.

theyre probably gonna go down the chart as time goes by
anyway
paysage: 8/10 (about as good as some of his best albums)
ulcerate: 9/10 (aotysf)
oranssi pazuzu: 8/10 (better than their last album)
black curse is a 7 though

nerd

Keep dilating and seething you ignorant tranny, you haven't even listened to these albums.

that oranssi pazuzu album is lit tho

>these are the kind of people who exclusively listen to death metal

Notice how everytime it's prime touristcore as well.

I could say the same for hip hop and female singer/songwriter pop music. At least Oranssi Pazuzu and Paysage are good.

there's such a thing as metal tourism?
usually people either acknowledge that metal is universally mediocre, or they're metalheads who listen to nothing else

No you can't because even the highest rated of those are usually around 3.90, whereas most of top 10 are around 3.70 by the end of the year.
Black Metal always remains at around 4.00 while retaining low amounts of total ratings.

It's easier to maintain a higher average if the amount of ratings is low.
The reason why nu-males are interested in metal in the first place is because it's a niche genre. It gives them exotic points. They crowd around certain releases that specifically target the nu-male audience.
narrow appeal + circlejerking = high ratings

The over appreciation Im Wald gets in comparison to the rest of Paysage d'Hivers discography has become a bit too much. While it's nice to get new PdH, it doesn't really feel like anything to. Looking at the discography as a whole, Im Wald is hardly noticeable.

Well, no shit, it's because they're less known, retard, of course there's going to be higher average with less total ratings.

>It's easier to maintain a higher average if the amount of ratings is low.
I know, but it also means that on average people rate black metal higher than other types of music. That being said, only people who already like black metal listen to black metal.

>there's such a thing as metal tourism?
People who listen to the garbage on this chart have even worse taste and are more clueless than Sabaton fan-tier metalheads, so yeah it exists.

There is nothing wrong with Gorguts and Death dude. You're a hipster faggot bitch.

No? It means that there is a very narrow niche of black metal that is currently popular with specific audiences.
The releases on this chart are not representative of black metal in general.
What you are saying is redundant and completely meaningless. Yes, if someone "listens" to a certain type of music that implies that they like it or are interested in it. What is that supposed to prove?

Start listening to BM releases and critique the albums yourself, expand the sample, and bring the rating down if it irritates you.

>The reason why nu-males are interested in metal in the first place is because it's a niche genre. It gives them exotic points. They crowd around certain releases that specifically target the nu-male audience.

This is very true. Quite a few bands come to mind. I will say right now is simply a good time for black metal and there's a lot of activity in general - good and bad work being produced. The same was true with stoner metal in the 2000s and drone in the early 2010s.

If it seems like there's a disproportionately large number of highly rated BM albums atm - yeah, there are. It's a good time for the style.

Maybe it's really just a better genre than most stuff on RYM. I look on there and the top music is usually some collection of samples and beat loops, or it's some indie band with all the musical skill of a dog farting into a kazoo. At least metal is made by talented musicians.

>there's such a thing as metal tourism?
all genres have tourism

>usually people either acknowledge that metal is universally mediocre, or they're metalheads who listen to nothing else
wow you're ignorant

chart is a meme
the trick is to neither believe nor disbelieve it entirely

But Chuck did give the best head in metal. David Vincent had his Azagthoth, and everyone in Vader had Doc, but no one made a pink cock erect like Chuck. True, as the AIDS infested his throat it made it hard for him to deep throat, but even as he lay there rotting, stinking of AZT and covered with Kaposi's sarcoma, Chuck would signal with two fingers when a willing donor came into the room. All I can offer in addition to that is the fact that no sex will ever compare to colostomy hole love, especially when the hole is fresh and supple after a well-greased movement.

We will never forget you, Chuck. Every time I hear your name my prostate aches, both for your tender heart-shaped ass and that incredibly thin, probing member we shared many times. It is heartbreaking how many things bring Chuck to mind. The sound of heavy metal. The flavor of Taco Bell food on the road. The scent of semen. The world lost not only a great musician, but a great lover, when Chuck died.

To say Chuck was gay is incorrect. He wasn't gay, he was just open-minded, and he sought anal sex from men, boys, girls and animals alike. Anal was not his favorite. His favorite was the blowjob, and he liked to be held afterwards, with someone stroking his hair and saying, "Chuck you are king of the world."

I will never sell the copy of Leprosy (80 grain vinyl) he left me at our last meeting. It is battered now, and reeks faintly of manpoo, and maybe it does have a few suspicious smears, but it is all I have of him. That and the memories. Those gushing, sticky, illicit, clandestine memories... Oh Chuck I miss you more than I can say.

cope tourist
cope tourist

It doesn't irritate me. I'm just curious as to why Black Metal fans tend to inflate their ratings that much

seethe
faggot
cringe
etc

how do you know without listening to them? this isn't a trick question, i'm being quite serious

>usually people either acknowledge that metal is universally mediocre, or they're metalheads who listen to nothing else
Truth

Metalweenies never get over that High School mentality in which their identity revolves around the music they listen to. They're unabashedly close-minded and ignorant, and they tend to be extremely smug and self-righteous when it comes to the bands they approve of.

People who are obsessed with a juvenile genre tend to be rather juvenile themselves. Who woulda thought?

>Black Metal fans
Stop using this expression. There are thousands of black metal releases of various subgenres that come out each year. The ones you are talking about target a very narrow audience that is not representative of "black metal fans" in general.

Ulcerates album is really good
stop seething faggot

Edgelord shaming should be encouraged until those cringe black and death metal genres are abandoned.

>Metalweenies never get over that High School mentality in which their identity revolves around the music they listen to

seems like your identity revolves around the music you don't listen to

It's insane how accurate this chart is. Literally every album is applied perfectly.
