Is there anything wrong with putting two ozone plug-ins on the same master track?

I dunno if Yas Forums already knows about it, but anyone looking to fiddle around with mixing some well known metal or hardcore bands there's a bunch of stems available from bands like Converge and Deafheaven at isolatecreate.netlify.app/

clyp.it/mb0a2guj
Here's a version of Converge's "Aimless Arrow" I threw together with 13dB of dynamic range, compared to 4 on the album.

i sometimes put 5 neutron 3 plugins in a row and set the track assistant to detect a different intrument for each of them, i've lost the fuckin plot man

>tfw working on 10 entirely different songs at the same time
>can't pick a genre or artistic direction to run with

These are the sorta vibe i've got with songs i'm working on:
synthpop
house
ambient pop/jazz
atmospheric drum and bass
reggaeton/dancehall
lofi hip hop/boom bap/plunderphonics

should I work on heaps of different shit or figure out one lane and run with it?

Neutron 3 looks wicked, is it worth it?

Could do elements of all those genres in all songs so they have a kind of uniform of 'they're all loads of things' rather than an album of songs that don't sound anything like each other.
Synth pop / ambient / lofi stuff all work well together though anyway imo

i think so, but then again i kind of seek out the most incredulous and unintended ways to misuse the software i have, ive composed severel whole songs entirely within rx 7 or no other reason than "hey it will probably sound different than anything else out there" tldr: i like them, but i have no idea what i'm doing

3rd round on this beaut, building up slowly and carefully. Gotta say pretty proud at this point, will work more on arrangement as next step, and then hopefully have the basic structure almost done still today.
Thanks a lot for the user who said potential in it on the last thread. Gave a boost of confidence, and his track was pretty lit too, but I don't remember how to reply across threads.

been up for two days, but i am convinced this is the most beautifully sculpted low-end a flaming heap of garbage could have, but yea i've lost the plot

What this user said If you got too focused on genre, it'd make your music sound inbred and myopic. Learn from all the genres you like, and then at some point start trying to blend them (or some of them) together for each tune. That's how most cool and unique sounds out there came to be.
On the other hand, to really pull it off well, you need to really dive on each one and know it's particular techniques inside out. So maybe applying a method to the madness is the answer. You could try organizing stuff like, make only one genre for a week, or until you have 3 tracks - without being TOO anal about inviting elements of other genre, but focused. Then do the same with another, and another, until you feel your tool box feels very full. Then try to make a track without even thinking of genre at all and see what comes about.

for the user whose ex is fuckin other niggas to his music

Nice Gross Beat preset.

Only if by polished you mean with all interesting bits removed and only the mud left. The low end is one of the worst parts about that thing, user. Before you think of polishing something, which would be adding clarity, make sure that the thing you want to make clear and audible is worth hearing. If you really want to savage that track, maybe make it way slower, and try to build something atmospheric with those sounds, because the way it is you have such a pile of dirty that not one single second of it sounds energetic or lively, and then that vocal trying to get exciting becomes kind of laughable even. Maybe you could use that in a, who knows, ironic way or whatever, but if you keep trying to make that thing bouncy, you'd have to start from scratch. Some of the textures do turn out interesting with all the lo-finess, so maybe that's how you could make something cool out of it by defining that aspect.

I wrote a manifesto for a separate music-making board. Could you guys please read it and give me pointers on things that might need improving?
Thanks in advance.

----------

TL;DR at the bottom

Music listening is a popular activity, which is why we have Yas Forums, but music-making (in all its aspects such as instrument-playing, composition, singing, production, audio engineering, sound design, acoustics, equipment, etc.) is also something that a lot of people have interest in.
Unfortunately there's no community on Yas Forums around these topics outside generals on Yas Forums (mostly /prod/) and in some cases on other boards (such as /g/'s DAW threads for example).
Said generals make it very hard, if not impossible, to have good discussions, as they come with a deal-breaking set of issues that a separate music-making board would drastically improve, if not solve completely.

Non-general threads with specific music-making topics on generally do far better than music-making generals on Yas Forums, which proves that the site is full of people interested in the various aspects of music making but since the generals are most needed by beginners, they end up being full of entry level discussions that discourages anyone who's worth their salt from even lurking, which creates a feedback loop that results in the continuous degradation of the thread's quality.
In /prod/ threads we've experimented with making themed generals where each thread had a specific topic or question, and we've seen a very significant increase in participation and discussion quality thanks to all the people who whould normally have no reason to open /prod/ but entered those thread to discuss the main topic.

1/4

lol it's only like 10 seconds

A general mostly populated by beginners benefits nobody, as the more advanced people have no one to talk with, and the beginners are blindly leading each other posting wrong information.
As a result there are very few knowledgeable people who participate, and in the rare instances where one wants to talk about something more advanced or niche, there will be nobody to discuss it with, unless another knowledgeable person happens to be lurking while the thread is up (which almost never happens as it's a very short window, considering that a single thread has to contain posts about several different topics). So posts about uncommon or non-beginner topics end up being left ignored.
The generals often don't even reach the bump limit because they have to compete with a myriad of threads about music-listening topics that will push the generals down if they're not being actively kept bumped.

On a separate music-making board there could be specific threads about specific topics, which would easily attract the right people by being visible from the catalog for a longer time, and there would be actual space for talking about something in depth without having to compete with all the irrelevant stuff going on in the same thread (which would be split among separate relevant ones).
There could easily even be collaborative projects (other than what appears on Yas Forums and /s4s/ once in a while), production challenges, resource sharing, and everything a proper music-making forum should have (which is almost impossible now that the threads need to compete with unrelated stuff).

2/4

On any forum keeping things on topic is a fundamental part of promoting discussion, which is why there are separate sections for everything, but here we have every discussion under one thread, so on top of mixing all the discussions it only takes one shitposter or animated discussion to completely derail EVERY discussion about music making (which is already difficult, with all the different topics being grouped under one thread, so what ends up happening is that there's rarely more than one discussion at a time). When that happens there's absolutely no way to talk about anything related to the general theme until the distraction disappears.
Of course, shitposting is part of Yas Forums as a whole and would also happen on a dedicated board, but in those cases it wouldn't derail EVERY music making discussion as it does now, so threads could still thrive.
A couple of years ago it only took /prod/ one shitposting incident to make almost everyone who's not a beginner or a shitposter decide to leave, and the discussion quality has been noticeably worse ever since.

All the different aspects of music making are of much greater interest than some other topics that currently have their own super slow boards (even excluding those that exist solely because Moot liked them). There are even separate boards for 2D and 3D graphics (which combined would still be slower than a music-making one).
For example, a huge number of people play instruments or want to learn, but don't even enter Yas Forums because they know that it's mostly a music-listening board that tends to have a board culture that's generally incompatible with serious discussion (because of the younger average age, I assume), so having a separate board that's not Yas Forums would attract a lot of people from all around the site that avoid Yas Forums.
I lost count of all the times I met other producers on other boards and upon asking if they visit /prod/ they responded dismissively like "why the fuck would I go there?".

3/4

you misunderstand the intentacion

Several boards were created for topics that weren't being discussed as much before their creation (since the people interested would have to visit generals inside of other boards) but have now become very active communities thanks to all the people they attracted.
Just look at the board categories. Every board under Creative is about DOING something creative, except Yas Forums, which is about CONSUMING something creative (since it's almost exclusively about music listening), like the boards under Interests are.
It only makes sense to put Yas Forums (with all the music listening threads, celebrity worship, waifuing, shitposting, etc.) under Interests and have a separate board for music-making under Creative.
It's certainly worth at least making a trial board to see how it goes. It would be too good not to at least try.

If you're interested you can send a line to the Yas Forums staff through 4channel.org/feedback under "Board Suggestion" and let them know that there's an interest for it, so perhaps they can decide to make a trial board.
Even just a quick:
>Just wanted to let you know that I'd love a board for music making, since it's hard to have this sort of discussion on Yas Forums and other boards. Thank you.
The more people show interest, the higher the chances of it actually happening.

4/4

If your intention was sounding bad and uninteresting, you should've stated that, m8

TL;DR:

There's a huge interest around the site for the different aspects of music making.
Instrument-playing, composition, singing, production, audio engineering, sound design, acoustics, equipment, etc.

We can only have these discussions in generals.
Said generals are mostly on Yas Forums (mainly /prod/) and it sucks because you can't have a proper discussion on Yas Forums or in wide topic generals.

/prod/ sucks because it's mostly beginners and shitposting so everyone else has no reason to lurk.
Music-making threads that aren't general are actually pretty active so there's definitely interest outside of them.

Generals on Yas Forums have to compete with a ton of music-listening threads, so if they don't reach the bump limit in a short time due to having every topic in one thread, they get bumped off the catalog in no time.
Because of this, the rare time one wants to discuss a non-beginner topic, the post won't be online long enough for the other rare knowledgeable posters to see it.

Everything is in one thread so all it takes is one shitposter or animated discussion to derail ALL music-making discussions.
Some of you might remember the /prod/ocaust of 2018, which permanently ruined the general, even to this day.

Some things that are normal in music-making communities are almost impossible to do in a general.
Things like collaborative projects, production challenges, resource shaing, etc. would have their own threads and the time they need before drowning in a sea of shitposting like they do in Yas Forums.

Boards for way less popular topics already exist.
A music-making one wouldn't even be among the slowest.
It just makes sense to move Yas Forums to the "Interests" category and put a new music-making one under "Creative".

It's certainly worth at least making a trial board to see how it goes. It would be too good not to at least try.
Just send a quick line at 4channel.org/feedback (Board Suggestion) saying that you'd like in a music making board.

I gotta go to bed but I want to continue the discussion from a few threads ago about visualization and conception.

How do you come up with and develop an idea for a single self-contained song as opposed to for a full project? Do you start with music or lyrics? How do you make each fit the other? And how do you choose an idea to go with? Is it visual/emotional ideas, narrative/thematic ideas, or musical/sound ideas? I figure that everything should have some sort of goal or direction but I can't figure out what my goal or direction is or how to come up with something that's specific enough to not be all over the place but general enough to not be limiting. How do you manage to bring a song to its fullest potential?

Cool vibe, man. Composition is simple but the warmth and flow keep it interesting for the most part. See a big problem with the way you put stuff together without watching for their transient content. Even if you have one instrument that is supposed to have a stronger transient, like a snare, and one that has a softer, like the kick or a synth, they need to be balanced. If you have stuff with almost no transient, like your kick, and then an extremely clicky snare, it sounds off. That makes your kick die off a lot in there, and the track would be infinitely better with more balance of transients. And that filter opening on your synth, which throws some extra harmonics from time to time, sounds pretty cool, but I think it lacks movement if you're going to repeat the efffect that many times. Maybe another automatic filter that shapes, instead of cutting, those brighter harmonics, would make your stuff sound infinitely more interesting. You can automate a parallel EQ to have a notch band going up and down to subtly different stages each time, or use something with an LFO for that, like Ableton's Auto Filter, or FabFilter's Volcano, or Soundtoys Filter Freak. Would really make a world of difference I think, and give you a new realm of textures.

what my intent, if any, i had is besides the point. the track as a whole is terrible yes but i did feel l particularly proud of how fithy the kick bass intermesh turned out9 and that was about it). and besides, it's a ricardo webm meme song.lmao

But, seriously, man, it doesn't sound filthy. It's just mushy and lifeless :(

>clyp.it/eosaro3y
Mix sounds muddy. Real muddy. Definitely needs some more EQing.

>tfw your synth gets destroyed while shipping

I got a refund but good luck finding another one for the price i paid. getting something even close will cost 3 times as much.
