Wtf guys ... I love free jazz. I’m not gonna pretend to impart some meaning out of it, and I know absolutely nothing about music theory or how it pertains to jazz. I don’t even know what “free” jazz means like is it just freestyling or controlled chaos a la Trout Mask? All I know is it gets my heart thumping and my ears are happy goddamit

I would actually have expected you to dig something like Interstellar Space by John Coltrane if we were talking about free jazz (because of how energetic yet soothing it can be at the same time), but if European Echoes works for you that's great too.

So I finished European Echos by Manfred Schoof and I honestly think it’s been a watershed moment in my enjoyment of music as overly dramatic as that sounds. It’s not something I would ever expect to like, something so dissonant should be repulsive and yet it isn’t: I think it’s pretty obvious that the guys playing the instruments are at such a talent level where they can afford to really go against conventional music styles while remaining enjoyable. It’s really fucking fun and energetic, and honestly there are even some really beautiful moments where the saxophone kind of rises above or the deep chellos are at the forefront. That was actually fucking awesome I’m thrilled I feel like my musical horizons have expanded.
