/prod/ - Music Production General
>is the problem that the elements dont all relate together well or is it just that theres too much in general?
TOO MUCH in general. If you want it to be catchy and memorable it needs to be simple. I don't know what genre you're going for but I'd suggest listening to Machine Girl's Gemini to get a good idea.

Not a shill but I came across this and it looks fuckin sick, the android platform is really lacking in good music production apps so I'm happy to see a full modular emulation for poorfags like me. Anyone here used it?
Let's hear it
Just an idea so far, but is it okay? I'm not really sure how to mix this kind of thing clyp.it
>idk man this is just me but generally during my "obsessed" periods I generally have spent at least 3-6 months if not a year studying and dissecting one or two artists, it's not something you can just bounce around with and throw shit at a wall to see what sticks- cover songs, take notes, recreate sounds, so on so on and apply individual aspects to your own songs. Eventually it becomes second nature and you can move on to study something else to add to your arsenal
Besides Kanye and Tyler (to an extent) I've never dissected the artists I obsess over. It's obviously a lot easier with rappers sometimes but that makes so much sense to do, its what I used to do as a kid with comic book characters. Honestly the perfect way for me to figure things out, thank you for reminding me of it.
>Tyler's loose grooves and chord progressions
probably yes to that one. but then I think it might be more like
>Brian Wilson's melodies and composition (and harmonies)
>Kate Bush's melodies and composition
>Kanye's lyricism and... singularity?
As for Carti and Young Thug, I don't know. And Johnny Marr's music is great but I think more than that I want to write like Morrissey. and have his kind of delivery. Like on William It's Really Nothing. There's also Kero Kero Bonito, their music completely escapes me. It's like lush but also kind of really artificial and electronic. Musically they might have something similar to Tyler and The Beach Boys going on.
>Take your favourite artist and make two lists:
>>everything you like about their music
>>everything you dislike about it
I don't really listen to artists who do things I dislike anymore. I basically love everything about everyone I listen to.
i am going for a degree of inaccessibility but it seems cheap to go for that by just piling in a bunch of shit. thanks for the advice and recommendation.
>I don't really listen to artists who do things I dislike anymore. I basically love everything about everyone I listen to.
There's really nothing in their music that you would've done differently?
If so, just make the first list then.
you're welcome user
>There's really nothing in their music that you would've done differently?
I mean obviously I wouldn't have been able to make those songs or albums the way they are (or at all really) but I'm pretty satisfied with how they are.
I want to git gud at remakes and playing the keyboard lads, how do I achieve this?
>sold it
Why didn't you just return it?
