why are certain attack and speed releases on compressors meant for certain things? i don't understand why an attack should be fast or slow depending on what sound you want. what difference does it make?
>is the problem that the elements dont all relate together well or is it just that theres too much in general? TOO MUCH in general. If you want it to be catchy and memorable it needs to be simple. I don't know what genre you're going for but I'd suggest listening to Machine Girl's Gemini to get a good idea.
Not a shill but I came across this and it looks fuckin sick, the android platform is really lacking in good music production apps so I'm happy to see a full modular emulation for poorfags like me. Anyone here used it?
Benjamin Adams
Let's hear it
Brayden Cox
Just an idea so far, but is it okay? I'm not really sure how to mix this kind of thing clyp.it/o5me0i0v
>idk man this is just me but generally during my "obsessed" periods I generally have spent at least 3-6 months if not a year studying and dissecting one or two artists, it's not something you can just bounce around with and throw shit at a wall to see what sticks- cover songs, take notes, recreate sounds, so on so on and apply individual aspects to your own songs. Eventually it becomes second nature and you can move on to study something else to add to your arsenal Besides Kanye and Tyler (to an extent) I've never dissected the artists I obsess over. It's obviously a lot easier with rappers sometimes but that makes so much sense to do, its what I used to do as a kid with comic book characters. Honestly the perfect way for me to figure things out, thank you for reminding me of it. >Tyler's loose grooves and chord progressions probably yes to that one. but then I think it might be more like >Brian Wilson's melodies and composition (and harmonies) >Kate Bush's melodies and composition >Kanye's lyricism and... singularity? As for Carti and Young Thug, I don't know. And Johnny Marr's music is great but I think more than that I want to write like Morrissey. and have his kind of delivery. Like on William It's Really Nothing. There's also Kero Kero Bonito, their music completely escapes me. It's like lush but also kind of really artificial and electronic. Musically they might have something similar to Tyler and The Beach Boys going on.
>Take your favourite artist and make two lists: >>everything you like about their music >>everything you dislike about it I don't really listen to artists who do things I dislike anymore. I basically love everything about everyone I listen to.
Tyler Brooks
i am going for a degree of inaccessibility but it seems cheap to go for that by just piling in a bunch of shit. thanks for the advice and recommendation.
Zachary Harris
>I don't really listen to artists who do things I dislike anymore. I basically love everything about everyone I listen to. There's really nothing in their music that you would've done differently? If so, just make the first list then.
Kayden Williams
you're welcome user
>There's really nothing in their music that you would've done differently? I mean obviously I wouldn't have been able to make those songs or albums the way they are (or at all really) but I'm pretty satisfied with how they are.
Joseph Reed
I want to git gud at remakes and playing the keyboard lads, how do I achieve this?
Jack Price
>sold it Why didn't you just return it?
Dylan Sanchez
You know what they say, Practice makes practice.
Finally made a track on this bad boy (pic related).
I own a Doepfer Dark Energy II and thinking on buying a friend's Doepfer Dark Energy I and attach both.
Has anyone tried any of the three?
Michael King
Mine
I do sometimes
True
Next time I'll use a 35mm camera and some sexy soft focus lighting
Buy the record when it comes out

Some times you want to control peaks (fast attack), sometimes you want to let them through but squash the tails (slow attack), sometimes you want the level to pump back up straight away (fast release), sometimes you want it to glide up more smoothly (slow release).
Gavin Turner
Looks retarded. Downloading.
Tyler Morgan
Man, wtf with Voxengo SPAN altering some sounds simply for being in the Master? I'm confused as hell, because I've been using this thing for years and never noticed before, now working on a beat and I'm pretty sure it's altering something. I know a bunch of really pro anal guys who recommend this, how the hell can it color a sound simply for showing the specter? Has anyone noticed something similar? Even though my ears tell me 100% it is causing a difference, I just can't convince myself that it is really happening.
Gavin Martin
Check on a spectrogram.
Some plugs colour due to gain of signalling coming in.
Brody Garcia
>full modular emulation for poorfags like me just use VCV???
Thomas Cox
Print a file through it and another one without it Put them both in a blank project Flip the phase of one of them What you hear is the difference If they zero out to absolute nothingness then the files are identical and you're just fooling yourself, happens all the time with fine tuning bypassed eqs and whatnot Human ears are pretty bad
Andrew James
B-but, user, that's the problem. I am pagli-- I mean, SPAN is the spectrum plugin. >happens all the time with fine tuning bypassed eqs and whatnot Yeah, I even use EMU analog EQs or compressors without any values at the end of chains for subtle coloration. But that should be a program that has either a circuitry or algorithm which are supposed to modify the audio. Here we're talking of a plugin that was simply supposed to visually display the spectrum and volume meters. >Print a file through it... Will try that, hope it gives an answer. It's just a tiny difference on my kick, but makes me feel like it's throwing the entire groove off balance.
