They show some promise but their interminable foray into exploring some new thing per album and exhausting that niche before moving to the next is very detrimental to quality of their output. It's as if their focus is on getting an album's worth of content out of whatever gimmick they're pursuing because of some arbitrary idea that they need to release an album's worth of content, rather than focusing that effort into just making as much decent work they can eke out of it.

They're not really anything like The Flaming Lips, what's with that comparison? Both psych-rock? Maybe Clouds Taste Metallic era Flaming Lips at a push but not really. That's pretty silly anyway though - King Gizzard have nowhere near as diverse and solid a discography. There's time for that to change of course but as it stands they're batting against Clouds Taste Metallic, Soft Bulletin, Yoshimi, Embryonic and The Terror (and even Oczy Mlody) and failing.
