they put out too much stuff and their tunes are too long. they're derivative of a bunch of old music. their production is great but it's aping old styles not adding anything new. they don't need a second drummer. HOWEVER flying microtonal banana is a great album and its refreshing to see some musicians taking on someting genuinely new and challenging, for pop music, and making something very listenable out of it

Why do you take everything so seriously? You have no one to posture for on the internet. Unless you are like that in real life, which is a sign of asperger's syndrome. I listen to music for many moods and King Gizzard are good for light hearted fun listening. They hit that niche and they do it well.

They show some promise but their interminable foray into exploring some new thing per album and exhausting that niche before moving to the next is very detrimental to quality of their output. It's as if their focus is on getting an album's worth of content out of whatever gimmick they're pursuing because of some arbitrary idea that they need to release an album's worth of content, rather than focusing that effort into just making as much decent work they can eke out of it.

They're not really anything like The Flaming Lips, what's with that comparison? Both psych-rock? Maybe Clouds Taste Metallic era Flaming Lips at a push but not really. That's pretty silly anyway though - King Gizzard have nowhere near as diverse and solid a discography. There's time for that to change of course but as it stands they're batting against Clouds Taste Metallic, Soft Bulletin, Yoshimi, Embryonic and The Terror (and even Oczy Mlody) and failing.

All of those bands, including KGLW, take their music very seriously. It doesn't mean that they can't also have fun with it like all the great rock bands have done since the genre started.

I like how their detractors can cancel each other's arguments this well.
