Oi, my friend wants to get into classical music and came to me because he thinks it is impenetrable and knows I'm into it.
So I'm putting together a sort of small document that is an overview of classical music history with selected works from different eras & styles. Maybe about 20-30 different pieces.
I'm excluding any pieces that are embedded in popular culture already, since they've already heard those. Basically, what do you think are some important works that total normies would enjoy? I already have a selection of around 10-15 pieces, just lookin' for some input. Brief pieces preferred.
Wagner destroyed western music forever. Press S to shit on Wagner's grave. S

Liam White

Xavier Wright
what do you already know how to compose for?
Dylan Torres
classical music is absolute garbage. why listen to this outdated CRAP. all songs are about jesus and sound like shit. complex compositions trying to be edgy but is just gay
Lincoln Taylor
>classical music is absolute garbage True. Baroque is where it's at man.
How do you guys metatag your music when the recording doesn't appears on musicbrainz? do you use the 'canon' name of the piece or the one specified on the album's artwork and booklet?
>How do you guys metatag your music when the recording doesn't appears on musicbrainz?
>Artist Name of composer >Date Date of first publication. If unknown, date of first performance. If both are unknown, go with best academic estimate. If totally unknown, date of composer's death. >"Album" name Name of the piece itself, as it was written on the original manuscript. If this isn't available, canon name. >"Track" name Subtitle of movement, score notes, etc. Generally, this just ends up being the movement's tempo.
For the album art I generally use a painting by an artist from the same nation & era.
Alexander Davis
You stopped truly enjoying classical music the moment you disliked this preformance of that preformer.
if you're just looking for orchestration help get adler's book
Thomas Gray
I think my least favorite performers is *man loudly coughs in the background*
Justin Lopez
>preformance >preformer
Jaxson Bell

Asher Torres
honestly the only big difference is 8 you dummy
Henry Young
I prefer postformances of postformers
Angel Brooks
that's the point.
Connor Brown
What are Domenico Scarlatti’s best works outside if his harpsichord sonatas? Im having a hard time locating much of anything else.
Owen Hernandez
Backhaus should have played bach more
Joseph Taylor
I want to get into Bach. Who are his best performers? Where should I start? Keyboard? Concerto?
Joseph James
>Who are his best performers? Gardiner in general
Suzuki for cantatas
Hillary Hahn for solo violin works.
I'dunno some others too I guess.
Levi Brown
>Where should I start? Keyboard? Concerto? Oh I guess I could fill this out too.
IMO I would recommend: >Cantatas BWV 4, 23, 198 I have listened to all of Bach's cantatas and can confirm these three are, imo, his best.
>Obligatory Mass in B Minor
>His ultimate masterpiece Ricercar a 6
and just go from there I guess. Dude's discog is huge and it is all great at an absolute minimum. You literally can't go wrong with his works, no matter what direction you go.
Lucas Scott
>Gardiner >Hahn
Bentley Green

Cameron James

No one: Not a soul: Not even Elon Musk: Not even baby Yoda: Wagner: *writes a fifteen hour opera* Harambe: wait...that’s illegal Keanu Reeves: You’re breathtaking!
Just do it. You will form mental maps by practice far quicker than having someone explain it to you, or worse, going into it with the predilections of knowledge without the experience of practice.
Alternate practice and lessons with practice first.
yeah I prefer my music to sound like it wasn't recorded on a cheese grater, tyvm.
Lincoln Evans
hello, I'm to analysing leonore 3, can you help me to know what's harmonically happening in this passage? from 1:18 to 1:48 youtube.com/watch?v=_0pz7zkKcA0
If a sharpened 1 makes things confusing, how do you deal with the highly chromatic/ambigious stuff composed around 1900 or this kind of music youtu.be/cb9SusPGezk ?
overkill, either just listen to some random pieces and start to appreciate it, or you're a brainlet who will never get into it
William Russell
for how long have you been listening to classical?
Leo Bennett
I don't listen to classical music because it is the worst era in music history. I skip over it entirely, and transition straight from baroque to early modern.
