Who did it better?

Wagner destroyed western music forever

Can I really listen to classical music without knowing theory?

Good.

yes

Are you sure, I intentionally said really because I don't want to miss anything.

What's the Thai curry of western art music?

Attached: Thai-Red-Curry-Chicken-5.jpg (650x975, 70.59K)

then no

I want to hold hands with glen while listening Stravinsky.

Attached: ghoulhand.jpg (2448x3264, 2.83M)

literal retards can understand "basic" theory. have you ever seen a piano?

this but Schönberg(pbuh) revived it

Attached: arni5.jpg (494x758, 76.12K)

Is basic theory enough, though? I want to be able to understand and differentiate like the average classical listener does.

Favorite symphony besides Beethoven's 9th?

I'm thinking Mahler's 5th.

The absolute state of Stravinskyfags

one by Bruckner. Can't decide which one though

>understand and differentiate like the average classical listener
the average classical listener does not pull out the sheet music and follow along. they mostly understand and differentiate by listening to a wide variety of music. being able to id a composer and era by style and form might put you above the average classical listener im afraid.

Choral is a meme symphony

Brahms 2

Schubert 5

Stravinsky Symphony in C

How is his music so based, bros?

yes but obviously you can't expect to fully understand it without listening experience or really good ears
I've been listening to classical for like 5 years and there are still moments when I don't know where it modulates
based, it has some truly incredible moments

Mozart

The most difficult part is simply detecting what is going on (having a good ear), and you don't need any theory to do this although it makes it much easier. To check how good you are at this, see how much of a piece you are able to sing, play or transcribe. Theory adds sense to what's going on. The metaphysical aspect of the music. Some types of music are almost completely devoid of this aspect. Classical is arguably the most rich in this aspect. So yes, theory is recommended, and it's not hard as others have pointed out. Having a good ear is what's hard, and luckily this is highly trainable as well. This type of training is called ear training and there are lots of resources on how to do this.

jewish excellence. they are the epitome of western civilization

are there full recordings of don giovanni or other Mozart operas with that good singers? usually I just find modern recordings with shit singers

If anything you might appreciate certain stuff more without knowing theory which can strip away some of the mystery of music

listening to classical will actively develop you ear. as said you can start by listening for key changes (modulations)
guess where you think the key change is here

i like this

thanks for sharing

*Beethoven, and Wagner almost fixed it by improving upon him but his wannabes fucked it further

>besides Beethoven's 9th
That's not even my favorite though.
My favorite is Mozart's 40th now and possibly forever.

Haitink's has great singers.
So do Muti and Norrington's.
What do you think are "shit singers" as compared to the great ones?

>Mahler's 5th.
What's best recording of this? Of No. 6 I really liked Berliner Philharmoniker, Claudio Abbado, 2004.

Ruckert Lieder > any symphony

any recording where the Adagietto is under 8 minutes. if it takes more than 10 minutes, into the trash it goes.

youtube.com/watch?v=j02192pTAjU&t=1112s

good taste
people often forget how amazing the 40th is because of its appeal to the "normie" crew
kinda like Clair de Lune

Bartok and Kodaly

Kubelik on DG is a good bet.

Verdi

thanks for the recommendations, I will check them out

oops

Damrau can sing everything, but nothing well. Now add that Muti isn't one of the better conductors for Mozart and the Vietnamese phil cares more about how they sound than the interpretation you get a mediocre magic flute as a result.

Thank you guys!!

The Greta of classical music.

Why does she have so many fan girls? I don't know enough about opera but I find her takes dull.

i was a doubter until i heard the part where the melody emerged. THAT is innovation, and a good use of atonality. without the atonal section at the beginning, the piece wouldn't be nearly as good.

Too cringe to watch past her talking. Is the music good?

she always does this thing where she talks for multiple minutes before letting you hear anything. im pretty sure she has autism though to give her a break

Philomel is quite good, you know?

Ok I listened and to another piece, she's a good musician but not a great artist, cute for a 15 year old girl and skilled but not so uniquely imaginative.

western music destroyed western music forever
