Why's he so stupid, bros?
>Burzum ripped off Bathory
This is true, though.
What is some metal about driving cars really fast?
Some idiot was claiming that very thing in the last few threads.
Deep Purple
Deep Purple - Highway Star
Following up on , I have another point to add.
Consider these variations on the same song:
Original:
youtube.com
Pop punk:
youtube.com
Power metal (sort of - until someone makes a better version):
youtube.com
See the similarities? All the changes are just stylistic variations, basically artifice on the song, like changing skins for a model in a computer game, and maybe adding features.
Bathory ripped off Venom, Venom ripped off Motörhead, Motörhead ripped off Black Sabbath, who cares?
'ate atmoshit

He's back.
I guess my objection is that the similarity is not something that ties it exclusively to pop music. To me this seems kind of like if we were discussing music from the perspective of instrumental jazz fans, saying that jazz with vocals is the "tech death of jazz" just because it also happens to be a genre with vocals, but which also focuses on talented instrumentation. There is in some way a greater similarity, but that doesn't mean that singing jazz is the tech death of jazz. It's a comparison with some element of truth in it, but which is ultimately not that significant.
>That's kind of irrelevant, since the instrumentation is just instrumentation. Whether I play Beatles on an electric guitar or a cello, it's still Beatles. You're just swapping one voice for another. Both PM and Pop can be very vocal driven, and pop makes a lot of use of electronic instrumentation, either in the background or as a hook.
>Depends on the band, but most Power Metal is heavily vocal driven. Other instruments might have their own sections in solos or as an intro lead melody but the verses and chorus are carried by the singers.
I don't think that pop's and pm's treatment of instrumentation are really that comparable. Most pop is profoundly vocal-centric. Though there are some far more vocally driven power metal bands (looking at you Edguy), overall the genre is far more comfortable with letting the instrumentalists just do their thing for extended periods without singing. That's significantly more rare in pop, to the point that a lot of pop fans will have a hard time getting into even the more accessible metal bands because there's too many moments where the singer just isn't doing anything. Ask a pop fan to listen to Nightwish's Elan and they'll probably enjoy it, because it's almost entirely vocal. Ask them to listen to a Nightwish song that's more representative of PM (Stargazers, for example) and they're more likely to get bored or say that "too much is happening."
Heard a song from it in the morning, it wasnt bad, will hear the full album tomorrow.
No it isn't. Burzum, along with every other Norwegian black metal band from the same era, were influenced by Bathory. But Varg pretty quickly started making his own brand of black metal that sounded nothing like Bathory ever made.
got real fuckin busy
but then niversity got an hero'd because of the shanghai shivers and shit's just now settling so I have returned
If retards are gonna claim Burzum "ripped off" Bathory then they should claim every other black metal band from Norway also ripped Bathory off.

This is true, though.
You sound like someone who has never listened to burzum. The similarities are obvious.

Gary Holt catched the virus
There is a lot added there to make that song sound like power metal, and I'm not sure that much of the original song truly comes across other than the main "riff" just because it's very catchy. If you really want to, you can do some really wild genre bending while keeping the skeleton of the original work. If you want an example going the other way, check out these two covers of Black Sabbath:

War is a Batlord ripoff.
>as a son named "The Black"
cucked
Also that era of Manowar was pretty cool and occult. Check out "Each Dawn I Die" about catskin gloves and communing with Satan. Also what was it with them being a disco band earlier?
That's pretty crazy, I wasn't aware of that. Rondellus (a medieval group) also did covers of Sabbath, with varying fidelity to the original.
>There is a lot added there to make that song sound like power metal
Actually I disagree, it's the same notes, same chords etc. Even the speed is kept. Even that bass run is there.
holy shit this video throws me back to being 6 and watching green day ones all day with my sister. God damn time flies
*floods bandcamp with the same album 12 times a year*
*that album still being good every time*
And you need to work on your reading comprehension. I said Varg, and every other Norwegian musician, was clearly influenced by Bathory, BUT Varg gradually started making his own brand of black metal that was distinctly Burzum in sound. So you are a retard. Please shut up.
*floods /metal/ with the same post 12 times a day*
It also features a lot of added in power metal shredding tropes like sweep picking, finger tapping, etc. to metal it up. Even then it only sounds like a very specific kind of power metal. It would sound very out of place on a Virgin Steele, Demons & Wizards, or Nightwish Album.
youtube.com
What a cool album cover.
>Metallica isn't just the most overrated metal band, they're one of the most overrated artists in all of music histor-
youtube.com
Kek, I forgot that misheard lyric videos were a thing. There were some incredibly funny Polish ones for Behemoth back in the day. PAPA! PROTOSS! KAKA DEMONA! youtube.com
Yup, but those tropes are just there for decoration, they don't mess with the structure of the song (the skeleton as you termed it). It's the guitar equivalent of a drum fill at the end of a measure.
I don't think anyone denies the validity of their first few albums, they truly became over-rated once they started appealing to moms and posers with the black album, load, and reload.
Like if I were to put a synth with arpeggios over it or just the background chords.
>be long haired, look tr00
>tell someone you like metal
>they start unashamedly name dropping bands in hopes of getting your respect:
>"heh y-yeah, I really dig A-August Burns Red"
t. Wintaar
Based youforgotyourletterposter.
Anything similar to Mick Gordon's Doom soundtrack?
Pretty dope
>black album, load, and reload
But those are all good albums.
Load and ReLoad are some of the lowest rated albums of any major artist, though.
Sure, and you can do the reverse and make metal songs un-metal (like The Cardigans with Black Sabbath). Doesn't make either the original or the cover more or less metal/pop/whatever.
*Eвгeний Пильникoв
Power Metal fan here, I can't even listen to Nightwish anymore, at least not the old albums, it's just too cheesy for me. Too shlocky. Still once I get into it I guess it's ok.
you are worse than the meme itself.

The Cardigans one are complete reimaginings though, they don't reuse the structure and riffs of the first. You can't say that about Cirno Punk or Cirno Power Metal, that follow the original song note for note, just on guitar. The Cardigans ones change the vocal melody, and completely change the riffs, even discard them in the case of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. It's a complete deconstruction. The Rondellus rendition of A National Acrobat for example is more faithful to the original.
POST TURNTABLES!
I'm still growing mine out, but the most I get is "You got that rocker look going on! You play any instruments?" of course, working at a grocery store, I have to hide my true power level from all the boomers and Karens shopping there, so I usually drop a few old school, boomer-approved bands. I'd rather some 65 year old in a Life is Good shirt hear me say Judas Priest and Metallica when I'm at work than Heresiarch and Cryptopsy. I've met a couple guys with good taste though, I got into that album Strappado because a customer recommended it to me.
