Metal is better than straightforward punk, but punk derivative genres like noise rock and post punk are better than metal.
As long as it's based.
My favorite stuff in both genres tends to be where the two meet - stuff like crust punk, underground metalcore, grindcore, crossover thrash, sludge metal, etc.
I like punk's idealism, lyricism, emphasis on melody and noise, and emotional expression. But I like metal's complexity, adventurousness, and imagination. Put them together and it's usually at least interesting.
Punk is dated
Metal is timeless

I went through a punk phase, for about all of 2 weeks before I discovered heavy metal.
I went through a metal phase, then I hit puberty.

Is that why there are still punk bands????
But what about the fact that Black Flag played metal and were GOOD at it? (Side two of My War, and The Process of Weeding Out for example)
Did a metalhead fuck some anons gf or something? What’s with all the anti metal threads all of a sudden?

Punk is gay as hell
Black Flag were metal
Good metal is like proggy hardcore punk. Nothing beats it
T. that little fag who got nearly raped and beat up by Rollins for accusing Black Flag of selling out and going metal
this.
poop >farts
metal is pool, punk is farts so yes.
hardcore is sharts
Yep.
Is that why punks have spent the last 30 years trying to copy metal bands? youtu.be
But the combination of the two is better than either.
essentially
/thread
both have their contradictions
metal is seemingly over complex music made by meatheads
punk is simplistic "street" music made by art students
Punk was always astro turfed crap.
yes
Punk is a completely pointless genre. It's inferior to metal in literally every way.
punk was a funny meme that lasted for 2 years in the late 70's then it became an ironically unaware parody of itself
Post punk is pretty good but most metal genres are still better than it
>and were GOOD at it
Industrial > both
>muh ABRASIVE
literal meme genre
>thinks industrial music is power electronics meme noise and nothing else

Punk has been invaded by mu-males and soiboys unlike metal
Metal has been invaded by them though. Metalsucks and Metal Injection are run by them.

Melodic phrases > samples of cans dropping down a flight of stairs
any hardcore punk recommendations for someone who already knows all the classics? I need more loud and fast music in my life.
Yes of course of course
I agree, punk is better than metal, but they absolutely shine when they're combined in genres like heavy hardcore, crossover thrash, powerviolence, grindcore, and crust punk.

Punk has shit riffs if it's not post-punk so no
>noise rock
>post punk
>good punk derivative genres
Right answer would be screamo and like three math rock albums
Post punk is great, noise rock is poop though
>punk is simplistic "street" music made by art students
Not always the case. The whole UK82 and Oi! movements in the UK were mostly made by kids from Council estates and shitty Northern towns. They stood pretty firmly in opposition to the artsy middle class bands of the post-punk and anarcho scenes. Also New York hardcore in the states was made by street trash kids who were often second gen immigrants.
>music should only be judged by it's technical aspects
>metal is seemingly over complex music made by meatheads
This is false too btw, only prog metal would fit this description
>math rock originated from punk
Imho both genres usually dont have good songwriting, but the good riffs make metal better

This is just US bands too. The 80s hardcore side of YouTube is a great place to fall into. Lots of great shit from Japan, the UK, Scandinavia, Latin America and elsewhere readily available.
