when i started, i just bought the cheapest guitar i could find so if i have up i wouldn't have lost a lot of money
I recommend going to your local guitar store (not guitar center) and ask a non-boomer there for starters. Tell him your budget and sound you want.
Don't do thisIt'll discourage you when you find out cheap guitars suck when you don't know how to make them decent. Spend at least 150-300 on something decent. Ibanez makes some affordable goodness as well as some epiphones. Just find one you like that you can afford and look up reviews on youtube.
The most important thing for any guitar you buy is how much you enjoy playing it. Go to guitar center and try out different guitars and find a couple that feel good in your hands. Then look for a cheap used one on Craigslist or Reverb. Don't get something with a vibrato arm (like in the picture) because then you won't be able to change the tuning and changing your strings will take twice as long. I would also stay away from Gibson Les Pauls because of their notorious tuning/intonation issues. I would also stay away from active pickups unless you explicitly want to play extreme metal or metalcore.
can you give a little information about yourself, its different if you have some experience with music from classes or something, but if your a total virgin blooded musical quivering pussy you're probably going to sound like shit regardless of the guitar you buy so just do your best to save your money
>ask a non-boomer there for starters
Yeah, definitely don't ask someone with a lot of experience /s
Don't buy new instruments ever.
It’s the same thing as a gun store fudd boomer, you fucking idiot. they genuinely do not care half the time and want your shekels.
>tldr. kill yourself
That's what pretty much everyone in history has done. This "what's the right guitar to buy, internet?" shit it a fucking retarded zoomer meme. Every classic band played on whatever they could afford when they started out. Expensive gear is not going to cover up the fact that you suck and good players can make even the shittiest gear sound good.
Yamaha Pacificas are nice and dont cost alot
The best starter guitar is a second-hand steel-string acoustic.
If you start with an electric you'll never play acoustic because it will be too hard for your poor widdle fingers.
i started with an electric and i can play acoustic
>judging people by how old they instead of what they actually do and say
>haha start with acoustic for muh strong fingers
>the guitar player thinks he has strong fingers
He should pick up a bass guitar for that
I recommend getting a pair of these or similar to begin your long journey to learning the guitar
... or, you know, you can decide to switch to a real instrument like bass
Just so you know OP, this is a meme. It's not true.
if you play guitar you pretty much can play bass
>NOOO DONT JUDGE PEOPLE, NOT THE BOOMERINOS, NOT THE HECKIN BOOMIES, NOOOO DONT JUDGE PEOPLE BY THEIR AGE THATS AGEISM NOOOOO
Have fun constantly being taken advantage of by young people because you've convinced yourself that they're all on your side.
I started playing guitar just over a month ago, bought an Oscar Schmidt for under 300 and it sounds great!
don't listen to the people that shit-talk epiphone.
they're an awesome entry-level guitar.
can't go wrong with a squier mustang
yeah there's nothing wrong with epiphone
>shitty chink shit
Similar vein as OP, military looking to get another guitar, was thinking something travel, minimal, headless, easy to travel or stow.
I like the look of the ALP AD-120 and the BOSS Katana Mini, not dead set on them though. I'd like to keep the budget under $1k, amp with headphone jack preferred so I dont piss off the barracks. USO instruments are often broken and cant be taken out, which is a deal breaker.
I own this exact guitar. It is not bad.
I just ordered a new flamenco/classical hybrid from cordoba, the C5-CE. The only other guitars I could even find in the same price range that were actually made in Spain and not just touched up there weren't as good as the chink Cordoba Iberia series. I hate to say it, but if you arent willing to spend over a thousand dollars on a guitar you arent going to find one that was made in the United States that doesn't pale to its half priced chink counterpart. If you have money you buy Kiesel, if you dont you buy chink.
are danelectros any good?
I like that one Beato has. I've never played one myself, though. I suspect a lot of the big name guitars are massively overrated and you can find something as good or better from a smaller brand.
First, borrow a friend's guitar and learn back in black or something.
Then, go to a guitar store.
Last, literally just get the guitar+amp you think the the coolest. Always buy the guitar with the amp or you'll fuck up bigtime. It just won't be the same. Don't plug into the $1000 tube heads because they need the $500 4x12 cabs to sound that cool, and you don't want to end up with $1500 of amp when you're probably going to quit in a year.
on the other hand gibson is the only company making nitro finished gibsons for as cheap as they do ($800). it's a really nice feeling finish if you don't have fucking acidic sweat.
The cheap ones are also immune from retarded QC complaints because there's nothing on them to mess up
>Youtube and forum fags buying custom shop and reissue gibsons:
>The hand-scraped plastic strip is slightly lower in this spot! Hire a robot already!
>Reeee the finish isn't a perfect mirror! Switch to poly and robots like fender! Its 2020 stop giving me 1950 quality on my 1950 guitar! Oh fuck the paint just cracked out of nowhere! Shit quality!
>How the fuck do they get away with including these weak sounding "pickups"!? They don't pick anything up! Seymour duncans or GTFO!
>Oh my god the hand cut inlays required some filler! What a fucking joke! I paid $5000 for this!? I demand perfection! Where is the manager!?
>super cheap guitar center special gibson
>no plastic strip
>satin finish
>robot-made everything
>extra hot rock n roll pickups
Most people have acid sweat from shitty diets.
>guitar music
It's 2020!
>not being part of the zoomer cultural revival
if you are older than 20 you have shit taste
>rap! DMX! snoop dogggggg! eminem!
>lady gaga!
>beyonce!
>hello fellow children have you heard of boolie eyelash
>t. people who don't realize they're old yet
Squier Affinity (if you aren't into modding) or Standard (if youthink you want to mod) Stratocaster/Telecaster. Made in Mexico Fender if you go used. Bullet Mustang HH is great if you want a short scale guitar.
A bolt on neck guitar with poly coating needs a gig bag, but if you go Epi/Gib$on a hardcase is required to protect the neck.
please don't curse the world with another mediocre guitarist with a fender
>oh man i sound really bad
>time to buy like, 12 pedals
>oh yeah now this is tone
>*dinosaur jr.wav*
Most people have corrosive sweat because it's fucking salt wastewater on every diet
For 5 years, I owned a les paul standard with no case. I just carried it around and leaned it against stuff. After it almost fell over, I bought a spare strap button and made it so there were two on the bottom spaced out so it would rest on them better instead of just balancing on one. When it almost fell over again i put little circles of grip tape on the strap buttons. I had no problems after that.
And then someone stole it.
>he doesn't know that some sweat is significantly more corrosive
did you think your shiny laptop keys were normal wear and tear?
Have you SEEN current production Gibson? The Epiphones are about same quality wide. It's a shame.
OP wants simple and cheap. Only a retard would take offense to THE solid body electric guitar with the Strat or the brick shit house Telecaster that have an aftermarket so large and design so simple that you can build them without any FMIC parts in your bedroom.
Yeah but single coils sound really bad and fender's scale length is too long so it makes every guitar it's applied to sound really bad and twangy.
They sound bad, ok, that's why 2/3 people with them have a bunch of dumb pedals.
fenders sound okay for what they were explicitly designed for. country music.
everyone else was on drugs at the time. please forgive them.
>Have you SEEN current production Gibson?
The last one I ordered off sweetwater was as perfect as you can get with their 50s style production and the world's least profitable paint formula. I have seen the shithouse guitars at GC, yes, but even guitar center's schecters have QC problems and all 3 schecters I got from better stores are flawless. What's that tell you?
Maybe you're buying guitars from sources that rarely have good ones in stock for very long?
>current production
it's gotten better since 1959 actually
And when I worked at a guitar shop, the most repairs were Gibson designs with fucked necks. The Tennessee models were actually terrible for what they asked and many had defects you find on $100 Corts, but for $1500.
Fender is a douche corporation with shit business practices but their guitars are by design cheap, easy to work on, and easy to repair.
And really bad sounding. They need to be about 3/4s of an inch shorter and use an extra coil in each pickup.
schecter has you covered
c1 plus, $250-350 used. 24.75 scale, modern pickups, not limited to just making grandpa music.
guitar center is not a guitar shop, it's walmart with extra strings.
Bullshit
You can get a Jaguar or Mustang if you want a 24" short scale and plenty of Gibson scale 24.75" conversion necks for Teles and Strats.
Pickup changes can change quack and twangy honk to dark mud and for a dumbass beginner they're ideal unless shredder
Hold up. What kind of a retard drops a guitar?
It's not hard to hold on to them. They weigh 10 pounds at the most and lay flat on the ground if you need to set them down.
>24"
Too short
>Conversion neck
Extra expense, and actually expensive
>Pickup change
Extra expense. Muddy metal pickups suck too.
Just get a guitar that's good from the start.
I agree, fender is a douche company with shit business practices. If you want the same shit as a $500 ibanez they charge you $2000.
So get a $500 ibanez instead with all of fender's $2000 features like a contoured heel and noiseless pickups
>Gravity doesn't work on me haha
>Those broken Gibson headstocks aren't real
>You don't have to check every single used Gibson neck when gravity and laws of the universe were in effect.
I hope you get raped by wild dogs with that level of human arrogance of being in control of anything, let alone shilling on a Albanian Smuggling Ring Bulletin board
Gibson shill
24" too short
25.5" too long
25" too boutique
You need 24.75" which is Gib$on® scale
>lol what are hands?
>what is gripping?
>idk how to do that i just let my wrists hang in the air limply and whatever does not hold was never meant to be
You are the kind if person who considers car crashes inevitable because you drive like an asshat and I am the guy who never crashed his car, smashed his motorcycle, or dropped his guitar. When you're behind me and you're late for work I drive slower. I am that guy.
The horrible Gib$on. made in USA, mahogany bodies, glued on neck with relatively smooth transition to the body (SG especially), smooth satin nitro finish

Based Fender. Made in mexico, 7+ piece alder body, sticky gloss polyurethane finish, screwed on neck with a giant 50s style brick in the way

Ibeenhad, the brand every performing pro seems to play that we don't talk about here because you can't be a supreme gentleman with such a dudebro looking guitar. With a neck heel fender and gibson limit to $5k custom shop guitars, coil splitting, a mahogany body, and features shaped by player demand instead of poser recreation.
guitarcenter.com
fender or gibson is just a question of whether you want to waste your money or if you want to get fucked in the ass with a tele headstock while imagining you're playing with the rolling stones.
Forgot to include the price of the inevitable aftermarket costs with every dumbass' guitar purchase
New pickups, because you think they'll fix a problem with your playing
$150-200
Professional fretwork, because you set the action too low to compensate for your weak fingers:
$80-120
New nut, because you don't own a pencil and don't replace strings often enough:
$50
New bridge because your amp is crap:
$75
Misc. aesthetic parts and electronics because you still sound bad and look like a dweeb:
$50 maybe?
Distortion pedal because you don't have a tube amp but want to sound like you do
$50?
Finally giving up and getting a tube amp
$500 minimum
Buying guitar after guitar, overthinking each purchase or expecting an increase in skill, because you actually suck, and guitar is more of an image management/poser thing for you so it's all about having the right guitar for your look and not about being able to play it
$Unholy amount of cash
>he doesnt own a pink squier
haven't tried one because the guitar center of my country is very shitty, but I want the '64 or the xt one so much, and for what I read of the specs they seems good, but you could get a strato too
The tracking for my guitar says it was signed for by (CGTR) but its not here, i have a delivery slip from the post office so im hoping that just means they signed for it.
GET A FUCKING STRAT LITTERALLY THE BEST GUITAR PLAYER OF ALL TIME HAD A STRAT ALSO IT WILL MAKE YOU LOOK COOL FUCK THESE
FAGGOTS GET A STRAT
the best guitar player of all time had an ibanez jem
