you need to consult the laws for your jurisdiction and see if it is legal for them to smoke in the unit. if so, you should move. if it is illegal then 1) ask them politely to stop 2) complain to landlord 3) call cops. calling the cops right off the top is a bit much

if it indeed illegal the apartment management would want you to call the cops so they have it on record to kick them out. while I fully support weed it is annoying as hell when you are in an apartment and the smell is going into your own unit.

smoking rules are usually clear on the lease agreement and violations should be brought to the landlord. it is not the job of the police to enforce the lease agreement.

Because media does such a good job at representing the moderate and quite of us normal folk and doesnt at all push the idea that the extremes among us are the normal) we generally dont involve the police because 1) they're usually white and white people love to "fear for their safety" around any other culture. Not a universal truth but enough of a normal that there are stereotypes (again, just the extremes portrayed as normal....or a stereotype! Oh I get it now) 2)means money is likey to get exchanged and most minorities in this country dont have that kind of money. 3) drama...again, despite what the media and stereotypes would have you believe.
Were perfectly aware most white people aren't like that, its just that the few of you that are have access to ways (in this case the police) to hurt us or control us we dont have access to in equal measure. When it bothers me i knock on their door and ask them to lower the music / karaoke a little and they do. Its their property. And i would wager most of my friends are the same way, white or not. Also, I have a black neighbor a few doors down. One night my wifes family and aunts and uncles and cousins were over to eat the fish and crab we caught that day. My in laws are strict Jehovahs Witnesses. My neighbor was playing crude rap ungodly loud with the bass so high we could feel it. Walked down and asked them to turn down the bass. 15 mins go by and we are well into eating with loud ass music still bothering us. Went back over and this time told them what we were doing and asked them to lower it. They turned it down before i left their driveway, even told them I wont call the police even if they leave it up. We carried on with the meal, had a great night even though we could still hear them. But the bass wasnt shaking my patio anymore. Fucking calling the cops.

I agree with you're choice not to involve the cops, but if they're that loud it's a real problem. My point was not to overreact but at the same time you dont wanna underreact either. Get to know your neighbor, get their number, and text them to turn it down. That's how you build a community before you start telling on them with your landlord or calling the cops, or checking the rules of people's leases? (Man that's so toxic white. I dont agree with you? Let's contact the landlord and have tou evicted...instead of ya know, communicating) If they're being assholes continually and diplomacy isnt working then yes feel free to kick it up the ladder. There are a ton of toxic white traits as well as with all races. As a member of
any race, its important to keep an eye out for this kind of behavior because it affects the community you belong to as well as that communities relationship with other communities. When toxic white dude calls cops on black neighbor for weed it enforces the stereotype that white people will do whatever they want to get what they want, and makes it harder for us to trust one another. And when toxic black dude steals or is needlessly aggressive or something it reinforces the stereotype that black people are aggressive or disruptive, and seeing people do it just drives the rest of us nuts, and makes it harder to trust one another.
