how do you feel about the meaningless of existence and the fact that we are all going to die and everything we are and have done will be forgotten ? none of this matters.
How do you feel about the meaningless of existence and the fact that we are all going to die and everything we are and...
it is actually making me happy thinking i can do whatever without any pressure as in the end nothing really matters.
Makes me want to suck a cock, but my luck would be as soon as he blows down my throat: they announce a vaccine and we're all saved.
by understanding existence doesn't revolve exclusively around my ego and self
It’s a brainlet way to think. Hell frankly it’s a reddit way to thing.
At some point nihilism got passed around
As some psudo-intellectual answer when in reality nihilism is usually adopted by people who just currently suck at life.
Nihilisum allows them the excuse to never grow or change or struggle.
To further my point, it is true nothing has any inherent meaning, nihilisum get’s that right. However things don’t NEED inherent meaning. You should apply your own meaning to what fulfills you in life.
That’s what is great about life, you get to choose your own meaning for it all.
>That’s what is great about life, you get to choose your own meaning for it all.
I think the point is that in the grand scheme of things life doesn't matter. Even if you are the greatest human being in history and are celebrated for all time, eventually this will all be gone. When you die, from your perspective in the blink of an eye a trillion trillion trillion years will pass. Our solar system will have been destroyed, coalesced into new stars and systems, and destroyed again 1,000's of times. All that was done here on Earth will be meaningless.
I'm half way through a Bachelors Degree in my chosen field; married to a fantastic woman; having great sex on a regular basis; have two happy and healthy children, and just bought my first home which is a modern 2 story on 1000m^2 of land.
If nihilism is usually adopted by people who suck at life then why do I feel the way I do. I'm living the life many people would love to be living yet I can't help feeling like none of it even matters and why should I bother getting out of bed in the morning.
So? You'll be dead and you won't notice.
I already said, there dosn’t have to be a meaning to any of it. There is no meaning for humanity, there is no meaning for your life or mine or talking on this site right now.
We do it though, why?
Because as conscious animals we get to choose to do the things that fulfill us.
There does not have to be any meaning.
It isn’t horrifying because there is no alternative to this reality.
Do you beleive in God, user?
Then find something that gives you fulfillment and meaning or keep being miserable. Would it make you happy to he a figurehead in your community?
For people to look to your for guidance?
Or is being a father and husband good enough?
Do you want to help the needy? Want to travel somewhere? Learn something?
That is all up to you. You probably feel that way because your life has stagnated and because there is nothing else to do in your eyes, just keep working everyday until retirement, well you gotta decide if thats worth it

OP I'm Christian. I don't believe life is meaningless.
But whatever the case, an easy existence was never promised by anyone. Be they theists or secular. Our perception is our reality and life is what we collectively make it, I think. Stop watching gore and abusing your brain with artificial joy that forges dependencies, as a start. Just my .02. Pic related

Someone had this dilema before you
To be or not to be there inlies the dilema.
it's ok
As above so below, everything is a reflection of itself, you are nothing and everything, If you detach from ego you stop being this you in time to instead be everything in all of time. Said in a simple way, if you realize this you are truly free.
i love you so much no homo
Everything is happening at this very instant, its just your cronological perception of existance that provides this meaningless perspective on life.
Detach from ego, percive reality as it is, pure and free. Break the chains of the mind
>OP I'm Christian. I don't believe life is meaningless.
To Christian, life should be more meaningless than anyone. If you truly believe that after death you will go into an eternal exist, then the relative fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a second that you spend here on Earth shouldn't matter at all in comparison.
That's a man.
Meaningless? So you presuppose a standard of meaning?
Millions of cells are dying in your body right now, the same way others are being created, they matter as a whole.
We are just cells in a giant organism....
Meaning is not eternal. It is a function of time. Thus, nihilism is dumb because it fails to account for time. Silly human.
Two problems with that statement.
1. Most denominations have rules and guidelines to determine how good or bad your eternal life will be.
2. Being a relatively short time by comparison does not turn decades into seconds. That would be like saying a year is longer than a month therefore a day is only 5 seconds long.
Idiot
We really cant die soon enough to be quite honest
OP has a joy deficiency. Not sure how to fix. Consider though, a microcosm of awareness and fleeting comprehension in an endless sea of void. there's something starkly beautiful about it.
Meaning is something you need to construct for yourself. Measured suffering wouldn’t hurt.
I don't know you. I doubt I'll never meet you, but thank you. Ineeded to hear this Yas Forumsro. thanks
Compared to an eternity - a good or bad eternity - 100 years is an insignificant speck of nothing. Even if the afterlife was only 1 million years, the short time you spend here could not be less relevant.
Stupid fuck.
not necessarily. given the steady march of science. These things might take 100s of years but the brain is just an information processing computer, making immortality possible in the long term.
1. cloning and transferring your consciousness into a new body.
2. copying your flesh based consciousness (brain, neurons..) onto a metallic/crystalline structure essentially increasing your life span by a 1000 fold or more.
3. Sub light space ships to reach other stars once the sun is dead...
Just get in a hot air balloon and go as far up as possible. You will find your answer there.
I didn't say otherwise. Learn to read retard
Is there a full video?
>2. Being a relatively short time by comparison does not turn decades into seconds. That would be like saying a year is longer than a month therefore a day is only 5 seconds long.
it does once you start talking about big numbers like quadrillion, decillion, undeciollions etc. When you have those numbers on the number line, a decade and 5 seconds wont be that far apart. Basically if you have eternity on the number life, 5 seconds and 5 decades will get squeezed on to the same point.
hedonism dude. I enjoy everything I can by every means I can. I make myself feel good, I make others feel good.
yeah gimme this transhuman shit, I live for this
There's just the small technical detail that nobody knows what consciousness is, and nobody has a better idea where to start than "the brain."
We could find out there's a gravity particle tomorrow than can be manipulated. In terms of studying consciousness, we're still observing its properties like galileo's cannonball experiment
I am not proposing to do this tomorrow. This might take 100s of years, perhaps even a millennia. My base assumption is only that
1. Brain is an information processing, and storage unit.. essentially a computer
2. Consciousness must arise out of X neurons interconnected within the brain
3. There is no soul, or anything magical about consciousness.
