I don't trust this sudden switch in advising people to wear masks in public, especially bandanas or old t-shirts. Aren't the covid microbs small enough to pass through non-n95 masks??
It won't provide much protection for you against the virus, but if you're carrying the virus, it helps prevent you from transmitting it to others.
The idea is that we should all act as though we're infected in order to reduce the transmission rate as much as possible.
Tyler Flores
The mask is for the protection of others, not yourself. So it's really up to you. If you feel sick you probably should. If you have any reason to believe you might be asymptomatic, maybe you should. But ultimately it's for other people's safety, not yours.
Landon Martinez
But wouldn't that only block large droplets and do nothing to prevent the virus from moving through the edges of the mask, or right through the micro holes in other fabrics? Thus not doing anything?
Charles Bennett
Eventually, yeah - masks are more about stopping the blast-radius of coughs and sneezes. However, you'll likely make contact between your face and hands less if you have a mask on, so you reduce your chances of catching it a little too.
Michael Myers
Assuming you're wearing it correctly, the current science behind it is that you're reducing the chance of spreading infection by 70%. So if you bump into ten people at the grocery store, seven of them will likely avoid infection, and the other three could potentially be exposed. It's about mitigating, not outright stopping person to person spread.
Sebastian Gray
it's significantly better than nothing.
Samuel James
even an n95 mask isn't enough... sars-cov2 particles range from 60 to 140 nm while masks start their protection from 120nm if it has an ULPA filter. If its not an ULPA filter then its it is bad :P
Jace Ortiz
What type of masks are you using? Do you throw it away or wash it after every use? Do you wear gloves?
Will you continue to wear a mask forever to avoid other viruses or just this one?
And where did you get your masks/gloves cause I've looked everywhere and the shelves are empty. I'm tempted to wear my Halloween mask
Jonathan Howard
It looks like she has a very small pair of panties or briefs stuck to her face.
I could roll with that.
Nicholas Cooper
All this mask advice and noone is asking for a webm? The absolute state of things
Blake Robinson
I'll keep wearing it for the time being because my faggot job requires me to. I dont even get flu shots. I'm just telling you the science behind it
Levi Mitchell
My gf used cloth and sewed around a disposable mask from the hospital, we keep them in ziploc bags in the car. Use hand sanitizer before and after taking them off. Wash our hands before and after leaving places. We are in our early 20s so not worried too much about getting it, but want to try and help slow the spread.
Caleb Baker
For the record, hand sanitizer is not the same as washing your hands. It is, at best, like a thirty second solution until you can wash your hands. Hand sanitizer is a woefully ineffective product.
Jaxson Jenkins
I know, which is why we wash our hands as soon as we are done putting groceries away, etc, just hoping it’s helping keep our masks somewhat sterile. Not sure how to wash them effectively with the hospital type mask inside, I head it reduces the effectiveness when you wash it.
Andrew Butler
Washing does break down the fabric, same for bandanas and t-shirts, etc. Medical masks were only intended for 1 time use. If you ever touch the front of the mask you have contaminated it and should throw it out. You're only supposed to put it on/off via the ear loops.
There are decontamination procedures, right? I’ve got a UV light I used to clean lab equipment/goggles from back in college, couldn’t I leave them in box overnight to sterilize? Obviously I avoid touching anything but the loops.
Doctor here Fuck off with your shit, Hydroalcoholic solutions eliminate viruses and bacteria far better than any kind of soap, it is the best tool available in that regard, period.
Carter Gomez
That must be why there are hand sanitizer dispensers all over hospitals instead of hand washing stations...
Joshua Ross
If you're a doctor, I would recommend pursuing a refund from whatever med school you went to because holy shit did they fail to teach you. Soap, while not outright killing bacteria and viruses, strips away the oil layer on the skin that houses the bacteria. hand sanitizer leaves anything currently on your hands there, but dead.
Do you punch your hands into a big vat of purell before you go into surgery?or Do you wash your hands? You should tell the fools running your OR how idiodic they are when hand sanitizer is so clearly superior.

flat earthing faggot
Anthony Torres
Stops you from touching your face. That's about the extent of it
Levi Reed
Because filters only go one way? This thinking is retarded Wash your fucking hands
Elijah Wilson
If it doesn't cause harm and you're not completely sure, do it.
Isaiah Cooper
It's not 100% effective. Neither are condoms, but using then is still called safe sex.
David Mitchell
Thinking that a facial mask that prevents the large respiratory droplets that hang in the air from exploding from your face when you cough or sneeze is retarded? I guess I’m retarded.
Henry Rodriguez
Masks are a fairly weak protection from catching the virus, a moderately good protection from GIVING it to somebody else.
But even the small difference they maks it protecting you from catching it is worth doing. Here's why:
The key to dealing with a viral outbreak is what they call the R-naught number (If you already know this, fine, if not, here's your chance to learn about it...) If the average infected person gives the virus to one other person, then R-naught (or R-0) is 1. If the average infected person gives it to two more people, the R-0 is 2.
To stop any virus outbreak from spreading, you need the R-0 value to be under 1. If it is .9999, the virus starts to decrease and eventually more-or-less dies out, though it may take a long time. If the R-0 is .25, it decreases faster. If, on the other hand, its R-0 is 2, then the virus grows at an exponential rate. Any value over 1 causes exponential growth -- the higher the number, the faster the curve gets steep.
In many places, we have the R-0 down to where it is not too much above 1 -- we've flattened the curve. Not everywhere, but in many places. Every incremental small step we can take to lower R-0 to below 1 is worth doing, because we are not too far away from putting the virus on a downward trajectory. Something cheap and easy, like wearing a mask, even just a cloth covering of some sort, is worth doing even though the benefit is slight, since the cost is slight, too.
Bandanas and t shirts are for morons that don't understand how masks work. The cotton makeshift masks Karens make in their spare time accomplish shit. The real masks stop the liquid droplets expulsed by breathing, coughing and sneezing, in which the virus can be found.
