Should I be wearing a mask or is it bullshit?
I don't trust this sudden switch in advising people to wear masks in public, especially bandanas or old t-shirts. Aren't the covid microbs small enough to pass through non-n95 masks??
Is this just to make others feel comfortable?
It won't provide much protection for you against the virus, but if you're carrying the virus, it helps prevent you from transmitting it to others.
The idea is that we should all act as though we're infected in order to reduce the transmission rate as much as possible.
The mask is for the protection of others, not yourself. So it's really up to you. If you feel sick you probably should. If you have any reason to believe you might be asymptomatic, maybe you should. But ultimately it's for other people's safety, not yours.
But wouldn't that only block large droplets and do nothing to prevent the virus from moving through the edges of the mask, or right through the micro holes in other fabrics? Thus not doing anything?
Eventually, yeah - masks are more about stopping the blast-radius of coughs and sneezes. However, you'll likely make contact between your face and hands less if you have a mask on, so you reduce your chances of catching it a little too.
Assuming you're wearing it correctly, the current science behind it is that you're reducing the chance of spreading infection by 70%. So if you bump into ten people at the grocery store, seven of them will likely avoid infection, and the other three could potentially be exposed. It's about mitigating, not outright stopping person to person spread.

even an n95 mask isn't enough... sars-cov2 particles range from 60 to 140 nm while masks start their protection from 120nm if it has an ULPA filter. If its not an ULPA filter then its it is bad :P
What type of masks are you using? Do you throw it away or wash it after every use? Do you wear gloves?
Will you continue to wear a mask forever to avoid other viruses or just this one?
And where did you get your masks/gloves cause I've looked everywhere and the shelves are empty. I'm tempted to wear my Halloween mask
