There's a solitary man crying, hold me It's only because he's a-lonely If the keeper of time runs slowly He won't be alive for long!
If he only had time to tell of all of the things he planned With a card up his sleeve, what would he achieve? It means nothing!
To the opium den and the barroom gin In the Belmont chair playing violins The gambler's face cracks into a grin As he lays down the king of spades
But the dealer just stares There's something wrong here, he thinks The gambler is seized and forced to his knees And shot dead
He only wanted more time Away from the darkest door But his luck it gave in As the dawn light crept in And he lay on the floor
From the Hundred Year War to the Crimea With a lance and a musket and a Roman spear To all of the men who have stood with no fear In the service of the King
Before you met your fate be sure you Did not forsake your lover May not be around anymore
There's a solitary man crying, hold me It's only because he's a-lonely If the keeper of time runs slowly He won't be alive for long!
From morning to night I stayed out of sight Didn't recognize I'd become No more than alive I'd barely survive In a word... overrun
Won't hear a sound (He's curled into the corner) From my mouth (But still the screen is flickering) I've spent too long (With an endless stream of garbage to) On the inside out (Curse the place) My skin is cold (In a sea of random images) To the human touch (The self-destructing animal) This bleeding heart's (Waiting for the waves to break) Not beating much
I murmured a vow of silence and now I don't even hear when I think aloud Extinguished by light I turn on the night Wear its darkness with an empty smile
I'm creeping back to life My nervous system all awry I'm wearing the inside out
Look at him now He's paler somehow But he's coming round He's starting to choke It's been so long since he spoke Well he can have the words right from my mouth
And with these words I can see Clear through the clouds that covered me Just give it time then speak my name Now we can hear ourselves again
I'm holding out (He's standing on the threshold) For the day (Caught in fiery anger) When all the clouds (And hurled into the furnace he'll) Have blown away (Curse the place) I'm with you now (He's torn in all directions) Can speak your name (And still the screen is flickering) Now we can hear (Waiting for the flames to break) Ourselves again

I'm sorry, are you saying THE CLASH is underrated?
What the FUCK are you smoking, I want some.
Jacob Wilson
This is Pink fucking Floyd. Who the FUCK underrated Pink Floyd?
James Thomas
Not even just The Clash - he's saying a track on London Calling is underrated.
lol
Asher Collins
I'm saying The Card Cheat is an underrated song by them.
Compared to all their other songs, it's a banger. It's underrated, they never played it live.
Jayden Anderson
They played The Card Cheat at every gig for a fucking year. Fuck off, zoomer.
Show me a video of The Clash playing The Card Cheat live.

Most Floyd fans don't give post-Waters material much consideration. And of the ones who do, granted TDB>MLOR, but still, "Wearing The Inside Out" is never near anyone's top 10 or, shit, even top 30 Floyd playlists.
This song is an allegory of Richard Wright's emotional state during his last years in the band (remember he was fired during the production of The Wall but retained as a salaried crew member for the tour, then jettisoned promptly afterwards) and up to his reconnecting with Gilmour & Mason. He was already a quiet introvert, but Waters had demoralized him to the point of feeling absolutely worthless. He finally started to come around during the MLOR timeframe but didn't regain his voice (figuratively speaking) until TDB came around. This song is him learning how to reconnect with his voice and, finally, express it.
"Look at him now, he's paler somehow, but he's coming around He's starting to choke, it's been so long since he spoke, well he can have the words right from my mouth"
That's Gilmour essentially saying "Rick has suffered in silence long enough. He needs to heal and I want him to heal, so I'm going to STFU and give him the spotlight. Please listen and appreciate what he has to say."
This was the first (and only) song since "Time", 21 years prior, to have Wright on lead vocals, and the only song past that point to not be credited to either Gilmour or Waters.
Do you hear me out there this evening I said we ain't gonna cry We ain't gonna cry no more
One of these old days, one of these old days It'll all be over It'll all be over It'll all be over And we won't have to cry no more And we won't have to cry no more
Most Wire fans tend to hold up the first three albums as their best work, with various albums of their later period being second-tier, while mostly dismissing their more "pop" period. I love everything they're done and this is a song from that period I always come back to: youtube.com/watch?v=FvRgC0pMIoc

I am a musician. The quality of the songs in general and the ability of them to "move" the listener is greater on TDB than MLOR.
Or you can just chalk it up to you prefer MLOR and I prefer TDB. I'm ok with that.
Not your user, but Floyd turned into dentist office music after 85. Not saying waters was the end all and be all of the band, but it’s that whole is the greater than the sum of its parts thing. Also I find The Final Cut underrated.

And not to mention, one of their most iconic songs wasn’t even sung by a band member. No I’m not talking about great gig in the sky...
