Top freezer sucks. You don't use a freezer that often but it in the easiest space. But then all your fresh produce which you have to use often is down at the bottom of the fridge and you're breaking your back 20 times a day reaching down for stuff.

Bottom freezer is better. But as I said above French doors blow.

The ultimate would be full fridge upstairs with water and ice in the door and a full freezer in the basement or somewhere remote to the kitchen.

first, single-door. a longer door means you have more door-shelf room.
second, bottom freezer. you're pulling things from the freezer much less often, so the fridge should be more accessible.

bottom freezer, or better yet french door set up is the best IMO. But for ease of use I"d go for a nice side by side.

my grandparents had an automatic icemaker in their bottom-freezer, the only problem was it would break if the ice shifted and hit the stop lever while it was making ice (as opposed to when it was dumping the ice into the tray)

French door sucks because the double doors and the bottom freezer pulls out completely, which is annoying and makes it more difficult to know when your freezer is too full to close back up. Having to dig through a bottom freezer fucking sucks.

I actually find the door storage in a french door to be pretty average, and kinda shit if you have an ice-maker in it.

Side by side is the best because you can have the ice maker in the freezer, but still high enough that it can dispense into a cup, you dont have to have a sliding door, you dont have to deal with double door seals, etc.

Only if you buy a shit-teir fridge, Samsung ones can close either side first

Being 6'5, a tall side by side would be amazing so I optimally use the top half instead of bending down like some kind of cave man because my milk only fits on the bottom fucking shelf.

We have French door in the house and a side by side in the garage. They both have their pros and cons. Grew up with a top freezer.

Ultimately I prefer the French door because we use the fridge 3x more than the freezer. It helps keep the fridge cooler as well by only opening up one side.

Ice makers are noisy as shit. It takes 2 seconds to pour water in a tray. No random cackling thunder from the kitchen while you’re trying to read or watch movies.
