I think it's pretty funny, and I like the way they address certain themes/ideas (like the meaninglessness of life)

I liked to ponder about stuff a lot when I was younger, so I like a lot of the stuff they address in the show

Kinda saddening it became affiliated with neckbeards memes, but that was probably inevitable

It's pretty decent. It's definitely smarter than other animated shows on TV right now.

1st and 2nd seasons were definitely the high point.

It's a stoner show.. my daughter and her friends get high and watch. It is fun to watch, when fucked up

It's a show that is genuinely clever and well put together. You can rewatch an episode 10 times and notice something different each time, a throwaway line that on closer inspection has hidden meaning, references another episode or is an obscure reference. At the same time, its mindless entertainment that doesn't require much thought to be enjoyable. If you're someone who likes to get invested in the show you'll appreciate it a lot, but if you're not then you'll still find it enjoyable.

All of this made it perfect for THOSE people who get waaay to into stuff and claim that if you're not getting the tiny references you're somehow not enjoying it right. After the McDonalds sauce meme, it kind of ruined any fun discussion I'd ever have about the show.

A few years ago before the show's fandom had such bad reputation, I was really into the show and bought like 4 or 5 Rick and Morty tees. They were really cool at the time, and sometimes strangers would tell me they like my shirt

Dude if this show and lsd has taught me anything is fuck everything else. If you like something, like it because you do. I still rewatch seasons 1-4 all the time because I just love the show just like I do futurama.

I think that's what made some of the fans so annoying.

Bojack's message is that feeling bad about being a smart asshole isn't enough, you have to actually change and put effort into not upsetting the people that care about you. If you don't, they'll leave you and you'll hurt people which has big consequences.

Rick and Morty gives off the message that as long as you feel bad about being a smart asshole then it's okay to be one.

This and Quantum Leap were such great concepts. They'd make good reboots (though I'd want Quantum Leap to involve Scott Bakula). Both shows got bogged down by network bs. Shame.

Rick and Morty doesn't really use sliding in a serious way, and it's not always the main focus of the show.

I fucking loved sliders when I was a kid. That show was fun as fuck.
I still occasionally think of the episode where the disease killed all the earth men, so they imprison the dudes as fuck slaves.
It made a solid impression on my teenage mind.

I always thought Rick and Morty's message was to be human, to be real, live in the moment and screw what society thinks.

I find it entertaining. The more I read into it the less entertaining it is. I dislike that many people push it as an intelligent show. All the supporting characters, with a few exceptions, are written and played as basically retarded while Rick rolls over everyone. It's a cheap trick. That aside, it's fun to watch and the jokes are good more often than not.

Oh yeah, it had lots of other messages to take away for sure. I'm not saying Rick doesn't have positive traits too, I'm just saying that he doesn't really grow or develop during the show.

And for the particular type of people who idolise protagonists, they take away that being a Rick is okay as long as you feel bad about it. They can't really do that with Bojack because you're shown time and time again that him just feeling bad doesn't resolve the situation, and the bad shit he does comes back to bite him in the ass.

You say that Rick struggled with his demons - does that make his actions any less deplorable? They touch on this on the start of season 3 with Morty showing Summer Cronenberg world - the side of Rick's adventures you don't see. But Rick himself never really faces the consequences of those worlds, he just feels bad about it.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily fromNarodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick and Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existencial catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Rick and Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's probably the most watchable show I've seen. I cringe at the feminist/nazi parts and some shit rick says, but it's so fast pace and constantly changing that it's entertaining.

I would say the season 2 is just about on par with season 1, but I pretty much agree with you.
