Explain black holes to me

anything can get in but never get out. Yas Forums in space basically.

My father would agree.

The fabric of space influences mass. Mass distorts the fabric of space. When enough mass is concentrated in a small enough space, space is warped so much that nothing cap escape, even light. The point of no return is called the event horizon. The event horizon is what we call a black hole.

Your father didn't appreciate that.

Does the ship come back,
partially alive and demonic?
Does it hold the crew hostage in hell?

Matter/stuff/things that is so incomprehensible compressed, that the gravity it generates absorbes even the light around it.

Okay- so imagine a ping ping ball. It's really light, right? Because there isn't much stuff in it, even though it takes up more space than you'd think for its weight. Now think of a bowling ball the size of a ping pong ball, but it still weighs the same as a regular bowling ball. It's way heavier, right?
Now take that and imagine the ping pong ball is our sun. Our sun is very very very heavy, but things can be much heavier. Imagine the bowling ball is a black hole. The black hole is way way way heavier than our sun, because there is way way more stuff inside of it (like the bowling ball) than our sun (like the ping ping ball). Like our sun, this thing produces gravity and pulls stuff towards it. It is so heavy, in fact, that not even the fastest thing in the universe, light, can escape it once it gets close enough. No one knows what lies in the center of a black hole, but it is rumored to be a way to travel vast distances across the universe.
