How hard should it normally be to find a group to DM? I'm absolutely terrified of most people in the local card shop and I don't really have enough friends with an interest to start

If you're terrified of strangers and you don't have finds, find an online group. Otherwise you're more or less SOL.

Visit a local card shop. If you're still in school ask those who play yugioh or whatever is cool about if they know a group. Normally they do even if they don't play.

I guess I just worry a lot about online groups too!! I run much more RP heavy, story based kinda games but I find the amount of people who can go a session without looting and shooting is low. Do you think there's forums out there that make it easier to find groups who want a less action-y style?

Currently we're in Eberron.
We just left Sharn and we're heading to the mournlands we started at level one. All of us were born in Sharn.
This is first time our characters have been out of the city even roleplaying wise.

it's a shame because it really looks like you put a lot of effort I to that table, and it looks like shit. why not just cover it up with a layer of felt? it would look 10x better and serve the same purpose.

I haven't DnD'd in many, many years. I just played with friends locally. There are online resources, but I never got too far into that. You'll have to dig for the good ones on your own or maybe some other Yas Forumsro here can help you out.

Kinda. Clerics fit that mold and what they call Prestige classes would make you fit it better but you will also be able to defend yourself even if you focused on healing.

It depends on what kinda game is being run, and it won't be as effective as joining your pals in the chaos of combat, but you can definitely make builds more specialized in being supportive!

Op here. Artificers can achieve non combat builds easily. When you start off as one you mostly buff your party.

We drink, eat, smoke, and watch shit before and after the game. Some of us have kids and are married so I don't know. Maybe that's why we get together for uninterrupted fun

Thanks! bear with my autism for a bit. So in this game RuneScape there are no classes, but some guys are skillers, meaning they have 0 combat but are very good at everything else from cooking to mining and leatherworking etc etc. So when you are in a mid level dungeon, you maybe have a skiller sitting comfy at the base making potions and arrows while the party is out and about dealing with all the monsters and puzzles.
So in DnD if I pick a cleric can I focus on healing and then all other support trades or something

Not to get TOO gamey if you're new to the game But in 5e, I played a multiclass with Bard and Rogue, two classes that let you get into a LOT of skills and be super good at them!! You can definitely sacrifice offensive ability for more utility and be the party tradesman!! I think that's incredibly interesting too! And I feel like the game works so you're never completely defenseless at the end of the day.

Well, hello OP, I´m a fucking expert in d&d 3.5, I played it a lot as a players (I liked rogue and thief) and also made a 2 years campain as a Master in Cormyr. How is your game bro?

Okay then yeah you want to go artificer. They make items. Potions. Traps.
They usually have a multitude of skills in a role-playing sense they're normally highly respected in town or feared because their magic doesn't come from a god or demon like other spell casters and playing a warforge would be best. They do need rest but they don't sleep so you can watch over the group and make items as they sleep or even heal them. I'd suggest buying a pet.
artificers can become the mother of the group. I once played a character who couldn't own anything and he was forbidden to kill. He also had to sleep facing north or he would lose his magic for the day and anything I earned I had to give it away to none player characters but I was allowed to trade if the trade wasn't in my favor.
All I did was buff the part and heal them.
Sometimes I'd hold the monsters in place or blind them.

At my relatively small college there were about 5 ttg groups, all of which were entirely made of normies who thought being a nerd was cool due to stranger things or whatever tv bullshit was playing 5 years ago. Even then, my dorm building hosted come and go sessions of various RPGs and it was always the blue and red haired girls and totally obnoxious faggots there. I could never get along with any of them since they just totally ruined the game for me. Always wanting their characters to be super special, attention whoring, and generally being shitty players.

It was pretty bad. I don't remember any rap playing but they always played rpgs like harry potter and shit that is just obviously targeted at people like that. It doesn't help that my dorm room was directly below the common room so I always heard them squeeing and stomping around all the time.

I live with my two roommates who happens to be women who have their boyfriends. They never spend time with me since they're always busy working or spending time with their better half. We do have some occasional conversations but we don't play and all the friends I used to play aD&D with back when I was a kid have moved out, grown into adults with tight schedule and find the game too boring to actually spend time on it. If we meet we do other stuff like going out in group or stuff.

If I want to reminiscence the old time I go online roleplay with strangers instead. It's more fun.
