IRL through online....hmmmm I mean lfg or roll20 won't work well in that case. The only other option that would do that is the website meetup dot com and similar websites like it. You can type your city and search for interests like D&D. And then give that a go. The issue is, if you are searching online to find a group to play with in person, if you are in the US or any country doing social distancing, it'll be hard right now because of corona. On the flip side, playing the game through online means has gotten more popular.

I feel like you gotta find another activity that tends to draw guys that like to go out, and then either you or them initiate going out to drink after XYZ and then you just start going out for beers every weekend. It's easier to bond over another activity than trying to directly search for people.to drink with

I mean it's 50/50. Some people are insufferable assholes that you have to walk on eggshells on to have any decent interactions and some people are cool. It's gonna be a roll of the dice honestly. Just go in with what I said about you want to do a test run with them or just wanting to try it out for a session, and that gives you an easy out.
