my parents watch and enjoy a lot of schlocky movies / TV, I tried a few times to tell them about some of the "better" series, more entry level decent stuff like Berserk or Death Note. I don't like over the top flamboyant anime that much but there are some really good stories / character driven series that I think people that like fiction would appreciate if they gave it a chance

not related this but this reminds me of when i took my elder father to see King Crimson for his birthday back in 2017. He used to be a big hippy and really into concerts and stuff like that so I thought that he would enjoy seeing them again. He went into a very melancholic and passive mood for the following couple of weeks after that some old people just dont seem to like to be reminded of their better days
