Yes we're desensitized to the deaths of randoms and say sick things but we usually cut it out once we remember that these are humans and not just dolls half of my coworkers are alcoholics or drug users and the pregnant coworkers marriage is on the rocks because they're both pretty messed up from seeing destroyed corpses

What made you decide to work with corpses?

I find it difficult to not view people in your profession as interesting.

Would you recommend this kind of job to someone with morbid interests and curiosities? I've thought about working in a morgue or working as a mortician before because I think it's fairly interesting.

Hey OP am an EMT who works for one of the few agencies that takes bodies directly to the morgue from DOA scenes.. Had a few questions..

What kind of education is required for your job? Is title wise considered to be ME? Or something else?

What drew you to that line of work? Are you just someone into more morbid things? Or maybe a family member was in that line of work?

I always wondered how rigourous you guys tested for stuff on bodies for cause of death/investigation purposes.. For example lets say we respond to an elderly female. Lived alone. Dead for a week discovered finally due to the smell.. We bag her, take her to the morgue, amd the medical examiner on scene pretry much decides no autopsy, it doesnt need to get transported out to another hospital/exam center.. But, when we do transport a body from a local morgue to a bigger city one, what tests are run on said corpse? what toxins are tested? What do you look for? Does the ME have like a hunch like hey check toxicology there was drug paraphenelia on scene, and its a likely cause? Or do you guys do a full routine EVERY time? If that makes sense?

Idk if this is more a funeral home task, but do you guys cremate bodies when done? If so how hot does one of those bad boys get? Always was curious how long a body takes to ash in the furnace..

Yeah lots of them I dealt with Lucille Ball her family where the sweetest people ever and gave me an autograph from their mother

Yeah an older woman was smiling but she had sores and was bruised we we cam to the conclusion that they were bedsores and we knew she was anemic even though they though her son was abusive he was just a dumb ass and she died after seeing her granddaughter for the first time so we could tell she was happy

why the hell is it you think it's mostly women into this type of work? you think you could handle forensic work over this, by that I mean being there in the actual crime scene? educational path to become one? med school required? how is the pay? how long do you guys keep the corpses on average? is freezing them how you keep them from decomposing? or do you guys use formaldehyde or other stuff?

Well women see blood more than men do on average (period blood, broken hymens , and childbirth) so I guess we are a bit desensitized and no I would probably throw up if I say the actual crime the longest we've kept one in the freezer is 2 weeks and it's a combination of freezing and formaldehyde
