What's Yas Forums's opinion on the military, considering its a job that requires one to stay in shape? I was thinking about joining the Coast Guard as a challenge to myself, and for the benefits. Would it be worth it at 22?

Yeah
Yeah
>job that requires one to stay in shape
pretty much relative to the job. only those with physical jobs care about staying Yas Forums in their off time. the rest of the military doesn't give a fuck and will find any excuse to get a waiver for the joke that is the PRT
>would it be worth it at 22
do you have your degree? or close to it? unless you wanna do a job that only an enlisted person can do, you're better off being an officer
t. Navy Aviation Rescue Swimmer
Imagine being that much of a bootlicker
No degree, not even close to it, though I don't really care about being an officer. Just seems like I'm being given more responsibilities. Thinking about going the AMT route so that I can become an aircraft mechanic.
At this point, everyone is a bootlicker. The lockdowns prove that.
>considering its a job that requires one to stay in shape?
That's a joke, but I imagine if you go combat role it'd hold truth. I'm in the air force and we have plenty of fat fucks, the trick is they game the system by getting a waiver. Their go-to is usually shin splints. I don't think I've ever met an airman that wasn't fat as fuck that didn't have shin splints, funny how that works.
>Would it be worth it at 22?
Sure, you're already making a good choice because if you possess the ability to think and breathe at the same time the CG and AF are the only options. Unless you're itching to do combat stuff, which I can sympathize with because that almost got me to join the muhrines.
well yea, ultimately more responsibility out of the gate, but better long-term for after military. If you want to just do a short contract and reap the rewards of a GI bill, then it doesn't really matter.
AMT isn't a bad route, because now you have a trade/experience for when you get out. I'm boned, because I can pretty much only guarantee being a "professional" lifeguard as an immediate transition (so keep post service goals in the back of your head)
any last quick questions?
Yeah, I’m a female(male) does that make any difference at all?
Thanks for the replies and advice man. How brutal is Coast Guard bootcamp, and how hard is the asvab? I heard CG bootcamp is the most brutal after marines.
>tfw lifeling history of eczema and can't join the military
What was even the point of getting Yas Forums
Dude I take back my advice you’re a fucking tranny.....
Oh, and also, what are the options for post-service civilian jobs offered by the Coast Guard?
Imagine
>leaving your friends
>leaving your girl
>leaving your family
To literally serve the intrest of Israel
Why not navy?
>friends
I have none
>girl
lmao. see above.
>family
fuck em
>How brutal is Coast Guard bootcamp
no bootcamp is brutal. it's been stripped of any respect so the lowest common denominator of a person can get through. the hardest part is lack of sleep and fuck fuck games, but even that shouldn't be too much of a mental strain (especially at 22). people younger and attached to their mother's tit do the worst because they haven't had any hardships in their life
>ASVAB
I didn't study for it, and I got a 95. then again, I had like 30+ on my ACTs and had actual college under my belt. if you're that worried about it, spend the money for the practice book. Pretty sure they still allow you to take a modified practice test at the recruiters (i scored a 57 when I took the practice test)
>post-service civilian jobs offered by CG
idk if the CG has any specific jobs. DoD you can apply for some bitch ass paper pusher jobs. If you do well enough as an AMT, you might be able to apply as a civilian instructor. for example, my job had civilian instructors at all of our training commands (candidate school, rescue swimmer school, SERE, flight school). at all the navy's flight training schools, about half of the maintenance department is civilian personnel
one of my helicopter mech's got out and now works at a regional airfield
>Is it a good idea to become cannon fodder for Israel at the age of 22?
>cannon fodder for Israel
>Coast Guard
If you want an easy, cozy little enlistment just to get that sweet, sweet GI Bill, Air Force.
If you actually want to get the job you want and advance in a military career, Army.
You want to go to cool places and enjoy three hots and a cot every single day, Navy.
You love the suck? Wanna be the strongest, push yourself, all that moto shit, marines.
No matter which one you choose, you will spend the vast majority of your time training, preparing to train, cleaning after training, waiting, waiting to wait, waiting for transport to stage to wait for more waiting, and a handful of times, actually carry out a mission in a war. You will get the feeling that a lot of time and resources are spent on you for so little return. With one exception.
For all the ribbing we give the "puddle pirates," they are always useful. In war or peace, they have a real job to do day in and day out. We get more return on a dollar spent on the coast guard than any other branch.
Don't worry about age. I enlisted in the Army Reserve at 27. Oldest enlistee in my company was a 35 year old going into the guard. I like the weekend warrior thing, but if you're unmarried and haven't started a career, go active. I got a wife in grad school, a kid, mortgage, supportive in-laws. By the time I pulled the trigger on an enlistment, it wouldn't make sense to uproot my family and fuck off to Fort Irwin or South Korea or some shit.
I'm a Coastie. Don't do it.
usajobs.gov
decent guideline: these are gov jobs currently available by searching "AMT"
Any reasons why?
He's probably saved one too many dumbasses doing their level best to suicide by boat.
It's not really conducive to be Yas Forums while on a boat. I was on a bigger one that was underway for 2-3 months at a time, and the workout hours were limited due to whether or not we had the helo in the hanger or were dealing with migrants.
Also you'll be waiting for close to a year plus in order to go to A school. Yeah, the CG handles that shit differently than the others branches. Fuck being a non-rate. Tbh just go army intel or air force.
>inb4 some navy retard says shit about nonrates
Confirmed for not knowing shit about the CG.
I'm hoping to sign a contract (army) by the end of the year. I have a useless degree with a 3.5 GPA, but I want to choose my MOS so I wasn't really considering OCS and was just going to go enlisted.
I can max the APFT already but I want to start running with a 40 lb. weight vest and get up to a half marathon. Is this realistic? I've heard weight vests fuck your joints but I figure they're gonna get fucked in basic anyways so why not be prepared
I enlisted in the Army with a college degree because I hated my fucking life and thought it would be a challenge or something like that. I am in the best shape of my life and hardly ever have to use my brain. I literally get paid to hang out with the boys, learn BJJ, lift weights, run, blow shit up (your job experience may differ). I have no bills or payments or anything really to worry about. I just show up where I’m supposed to and do what the man tells me to. Other than that, I run and lift and kayak and fish. Best fucking decision of my life, only few are able to capitalize on the fantastic lifestyle the military provides you with. Don’t forget if you apply yourself even remotely at all you stand out and will be heavily rewarded for it. If you just want to chill and hit standards, that’s fine too, you will still get paid. I recommend everyone does a few years of service honestly. Perhaps I was more jaded to the world than the common man but the military alternative probably saved my life. Only a matter of time before I had killed myself doing a 9-5 accounting job.
>running with a 40 lb. weight vest and get up to a half marathon
ahahahahahaha
>they're gonna get fucked in basic anyways so why not be prepared
better fuck up my knees before I get to bootcamp missing out on that sweet, sweet disability check
yea, bud, 11B sounds like a good route for you
This is stupid and unnecessary as fuck. Army Basic Combat Training is a joke, you don't need to be doing anything ridiculous like running 13 miles with a 40 lb vest on to graduate. Be able to run 2 miles in 14 minutes and do 50 chest to ground push ups and you will be significantly over prepared.
>learn bjj
Is it intramural? Or do you just go to local gyms?
Also what MOS or what would you recommend? I can max the APFT and get top percentile on the AFQT, although I'm slightly worried I'll get denied security clearance. I just want to work out, train martial arts, and read books for a few years then go get my master's
Nigga most people have been getting their top picks with ROTC, hell if you have a 3.5 GPA and max the APFT you can easily get the MOS you want
t. AROTC faggot who has a 2.6 GPA and a 300 APFT and got his first pick
