General running/ running training discussion.
Running noob here. Recently did my first sub 3 minute kilometre as a test. Fuck. How do you guys maintain that kind of pace over longer distances? My goal for the year is a sub 40 minute 10km.

Started running the black diamond trails instead of the flats nearby and am having an absolute blast but I can feel it fuckin up my knees real quick. How do I prevent this?
>can feel it fuckin up my knees real quick. How do I prevent this
Serious question, why aren't shoes like this more common for people with joint problems? Not this exact design, but shoes that can absorb and return energy like this in one way or another? Ever since I picked up some altra torin plush shoes I've never wanted to wear normal shoes again.
Because you look like a retard wearing them
>running in 2020
have fun when your dick explodes lmfao
>caring what other people think about how you look
Is it summer already?
One would think a good insole should do the trick. Otherwise people do wear ortho shoes which can look pretty bad i guess
I don't get it?
They kind of do. I have a pair of Zooms (no not the expensive ones) which have this rigid plate inside plus a lot of foam. Very comfortable landing, like landing a bike with good suspension. I imagine it's very soft on the knees.
>new to running
>third time this week
>go 4.5 miles first two times
>today couldn’t even go a mile because shin splints
am I ever gonna make it?
get better shoes, get better form, get stronger legs.
we're all gonna make it.
I honestly think running is overrated. Maybe once or twice a week max.
>better forms of cardio
>shadow boxing
>boxing circuit
>hiking
>lap swimming
Just my opinion of course.
did you stretch?
I start with a 3-5 minute walk and then stretch. I'm definitely gonna focus more on it before hand now because my calves felt like logs.
I have new brooks shoes coming in, adrenaline 19's different color. I know I have low arches and my toes fave outwards so I'm hoping this will help to some degree. Where should I go to try and fix my form?
Yeah just fix up your running form: Straight torso, land mid foot (not with your heel) but bounce off your toes and only focus on lifting your leg up with your hamstring (dont focus on striking your leg down it should just fall naturally) This is the lowest impact of running and once you get the hang of it you can start going faster and you should be pain free
Also forgot to mention lean forward a little bit
thanks bro means a lot, I'll try this out asap.
No worries hope it helps g
How do you guys go a out programming your runs? I want to be really good at the 5k but have no clue how to train other than just running
>think about GOOD goal time
So for 5k it's sub 18, I guess?
>google 'sub [goal time] [distance] plan'
>chose one of the first results
>check if you meet the prerequisite (usually [goal time] + x)
>If you don't meet the prerequisites google 'sub [goal time]+x [goal distance] plan' and repeat the above steps
>If you meet the prerequisites either just start with the plan or come back and check what Yas Forums thinks about the plan
Only a few posters on Yas Forums know shit about running though. As you train and run into problems, google said problems and find solutions. You'll learn everything on the way. Also watch a video of v02max productions every day.
Stretch post-run, couple rotations through hamstring, quad, shins
Our bodies were made to run my friend. Embrace it. Every cell in your body wants you to run.
Tbh there is no real reason to defend any cardio activity (skipping, boxing, swimming, running etc). Just pick whatever you like doing the most.
Pretty new to running and I have long legs and a long stride. I found that listening to music with a certain BPM really keeps me in check for pace. I thought about gradually increasing the BPM to increase my speed and get my times better. Is this autistic? i.e. I'm listening to playlists at 130-140 bpm right now and would graduate to 140-150 in a few weeks.
get yourself a decent pair of running shoes, preferrbly with gel filling in the soles to absorb shock.

I got a pack of those Gatorade energy gels since my weekend long runs are exceeding 14 miles. The serving size says the entire package but I should only need one individual gel per 7 miles or 45 minutes, right?
How do you guys run in general, not even a minute and my ankles/shins are in agony
:(
is running for half an hour after every workout overdoing it?
I should add that I have the energy for it and don't have any aches or issues
are you overweight or obese? if so then don't just jump into running, work your way up to it. c25k or something similar
if you don't have any issues then do it brah
Then obviously you're not overdoing it

I’ve got crazy news for you that gearsnobs will hate me for. If you have any recurring injuries or a tendency to get sore when running: get a pair of Sketchers. They outperform shoes 3x the price in injury prevention. Speaking from years of experience including college competition. I’ll never buy a fancy brand again.
