Have goals. I've been doing Olympic weightlifting for more than 3 yrs now and never really bothered with my diet, just kept protein high and ate whatever i wanted or overfed. By the way you start absorbing calories the moment you put food into your mouth, literally as saliva touches the food, you start getting those calories, its not just when its in your digestive system in your gut.
