What do?

Buy a new one.

Sell your old one to a poor fag who is trying to buy a home gym.

Wire brush and oil

Butt-chug a gallon of Evap-o-rust and slide the entire barbell up your asshole. Should come out clean and beautiful, post pics before and after.

I'm wondering this too. I have a little bit of rust on my barbell and some of my weight plates have decent sized rust spots on them

Rolling for this

phosphoric acid will make it shiny and new

Have you considered cleaning the rust?

roll

mix a quarter gallon of bleach and ammonia in a plastic container (make sure to do this in a small room because it leaves a smell like stale eggs and you don't want that in your living room) then wait for the mixture to thicken (might take a while, just sit by it patiently, maybe stir a bit) and then get a sponge and rub down the barbell.

This or a rotary tool with a buffing wheel and some polish

I don't know how

>Doesn't know how to remove rust
Pathetic.
I believe in you though.
There's many rust removers you can get.
Hell even white vinegar for a day then scrubbed will work.
Like others said, rotary wheel and one for buffing.

Hgy

Imagine being so incompetent that you cant even clean light surface rust off of a metal surface.

Ignore the title, this is for any mechanical problem

CLP and a shammy cloth.

Don't use anything that can damage the metal, it will take off more of the protective coating and cause further rust.

t. clean guns and knives monthly

Just some CLP and a cloth, take a cue tip and slather that shit on and rub it around, let it sit for about an hour or two.
If it's really bad take a paper towel and liberally put CLP on it and wrap it around the bar.

Afterwords polish with the shammy cloth.

I heard that you want to use 3 in 1 oil but every place around my is currently sold out and I don't know oil very well so I don't know alternatives

evap-o-rust would work best because it'll just chelate the dick off the rust

DON'T REMOVE THE RUST
It will make the barbell that much lighter, and you won't see the same gains.

Citric acid or oxalic acid. Even better would be to look for a commercial rust removal product since there'd be less chance of you fucking it up and it would already have the ideal concentration + additives.

Yeah except it will continue to rust until it dissolves your bar you fucking dingus.

You think this is funny, but you could literally go to jail for it.

This, cleaned my barbell right up

Not sure if you've got a sealed bearing race or an open race. Judging by the fact you said it was rusting I'm going to assume it's open.
I would suggest putting some WD40 or whatever lubricant/rust remover you can find on it and spinning the collar until it feels like it has loosened up. Not really much else you can do at this point though, the surface rust has already set in, only way to really get rid of it is to crack the bearing open and replace it.

You'll probably want to lubricate it every couple months depending on how much you use it.

Oh my god yes! This is so dangerous.

Get bent, wanker.

...

>tfw aircraft mechanic
Thanks for this.

No I can clean it, I just wouldn't make a fucking thread about it like OP.

oil it you fucking delitant
