Fellow paramedic fag here. Well sorta in through the EMT portion just getting my license atm when the test opens again after lockdown, fire academy after then paramedic school after I’m with a department.
Definitely fit, but try to get with a fire department not a private company. With a department you get a second family, a bunch of lift bros (on my ride alongs they all lifted together at the end of the day, had deadlift competitions and slammed the weights and shit it was awesome). It’s part of the job to be fit and you need to be fit to get through academy (mostly cardio). A lot of older guys let themselves go, but ideally you work hard to stay fit for your whole career, think of being the firefighter/paramedic you would want saving your family. Some departments will pay for you to go to paramedic school, saving you a good chunk of money. I suggest doing what I am and getting your emt license, going through hide academy, getting hired (can be hard because so many people want this job) and going back for paramedics after you have your feet wet in the EMS world.
Some places have pretty good starting pay and expected growth, as well as nice raises. And a great pension. In my case I’ll probably start out making $50k/year, have it grow to $70/k with my paramedic license and high with promotions (making LT, or $200/k if you get chief/raises). IIRC my pension is like 60% of my max pay but I have to do atleast 20 years to get the full, less than that and it’s like 30%. Great benefits too
Thank you for your service.

That’s my exact situation. Had no clue what I wanted to do mom forced me into college to figure it out. Always had an idea I wanted to do firefighting/paramedics but never looked into it or acted on it, thought about other hair but always came back to this. Wasted my time getting an associates, took my like 3.5 fucking years just to drop out with a single class left to get the degree. Fucked off for a year, went back to the college where they had the EMT program. Now I’m 4 months out of it trying to take the national. Failed it once because I rushed and didn’t read the questions carefully. Taking it again once the center reopens. After that it’s fire academy, then getting hired doing a career I’m passionate as fuck about. If it sounds appealing and you enjoy emergency medicine as well as being fit and dealing with high stress situations, go for it.
Also there’s tons of downtime. Like there’s always shit to do, there’s busy as fuck periods with stressful call after call, but there’s also still tons of downtime to just chill. And the shifts are appealing to me. Might be shit like 24on/24off. 72on/48 off. Etc.
Firefighter. 20 right now and probably going to go for it
How do I get into archeology? I'm very interested but I'm clueless about the process of becoming one.
makes me glad I decided ages ago I wanted to do this. gonna get training as soon as i turn of age
Good on you, some dickhead is gonna report you for admitting you’re underage, but yeah train man. Academy is mainly cardio, about 5 days a week running around 5 miles each day and then training and shit. You can potentially get hired at around 20 if you study hard and get through everything. This means you could be in your career before 25 and moved out of your parents house. But also it’s never too late plenty of people go into this older, bad guys older than me in my class.
I'm a manager in a steel mill. 12hr days, 5 on 5 off, $100k+/yr with bonuses. I completely stumbled into this position from an adjacent industry (pipe manufacturing) and am entirely unqualified and feel its only a matter of time before I'm revealed to be a fraud and every day is wrought with anxiety because of it.
That said, working with steel is pretty based.
I am a firefighter and it is legitimately the best job I've ever had. The money starting out isn't the best if you're just an emt but becoming a paramedic gets you a solid pay pump and a job anywhere you want really.
what am I looking at here
Thank you for all that you do.

I'm in medical school, I fucking hate like 90% of it but the 10% makes it worth it.
Got off my pediatrics rotation in time for covid 19 to send me home, now I'm mopping up random credits in online classes.
Literally went from working so many hours a week. I don't know how many, I was just working (studying or doing clinical learning stuff like seeing patients and writing notes) every waking hour sleeping 6-7 hours a night.
Now I'm posting on Yas Forums for the first time in five years writing occasional essays. This was all supposed to happen in fourth year, making space for interviews, gym visits, and writing some fiction. I'm getting some writing work done and passing the classes but holy fuck I feel directionless.
Doing grip training, planks, pushup progressions, and stretching. It's going well.
