Does Yas Forums row? Either on the water or with an Erg
Ex uni 3tard reporting.
For my graduation, I bought a concept 2 and I still use it. My gf started ergging too from this quarantine lockout
I was an oarsman for 7 years. I went to trials years ago at the Princeton training center.
I still miss it.
Rowing is cool but canoeing is where it's at
Canoeing is what tears families apart.
Sell kayaks at the store I work at. We call tandem Kayaks, divorce boats.
Yeah cause they roll like bitches or overload the boat then roll
Tandem Kayaks are an affront to God
3tard gang rise up
Been rowing more and more consistently for the last 2 weeks. Trying more steady state instead of going all out every row. It's a real skill to maintain a slow pace and consistent force, It's so easy to over or undershoot my goal split if I'm not paying attention. This was my best 5k in I just wanted to die when I was going that fast. last few rows I've hit around a 20:20 5k but I feel much more comfortable through 95% of the row.
I kayak almost every day. It's more of a leisure activity than exercise though.

Rowed in high school but that's about it. I kinda wanna get that sub 7:00 2k but at the same time I never want to do another 2k. My best was 7:03.8 at 62kg and like 5 foot 9. 5 years of heavy smoking and drinking since then though.
Absolutely. Rowing is the greatest sport on earth, the pure physicality and work required is unmatched. By far the sport that requires the most athleticism and mental fortitude. Its a shame that more people don't realize this. I rowed in high school and my crew and I won the 8 and 4 races at our championship regatta last year, which was my senior year. Best time of my life. Sucks now that I'm in uni I am unable to row anymore, as even though I got offers to row at a collegiate level it was D3, and the amount of pain collegiate rowers go through is just astronomical. If I'm going to subject myself to that level of pain I need some sort of incentive, as much as I love the sport there comes a certain level where it stops being fun I suppose. I wasn't good enough to go D1 to say the least haha. I hope that my crew and I can get back together for a summer in the near future and do an open 4 or 8, but until then I will just have to settle with the erg, all the work none of the fun. I played hockey in high school as well at an extremely competitive Minnesota school, but rowing was still 10x more fun. Recommend to anyone considering.
I have to disagree. Wonderful sport. But the culture is the worst. If youre not 100% committed, then be prepared for some of the most toxic shit. Also, almost everyone is an elitist cunt and a manchild.
Cant make it to the sheds every day? Passive aggressive "jokes'. Want to alter your program slightly? Coach gives you a snide comment about your performance. Dont want to waste hours shooting the shit ? Youll miss out on a random important announcement.
And the women. As bad as the "men" are, at least they work hard, and birds always find a way of being worse. Women constantly put no effort in, get shit times and are put on the olympic team. Then they have the gall to talk shit about the men who work their hearts out, but just dont quite make it.
I loved rowing, I had the best coach, had a blast competing and did quite well. But the culture just drags the sport down.
splitbro
you trying to negative split, or is that just that unsteadiness?
C1 or C2?
trying to improve my aerobic base. my 2k is 7:22 so having a steady state of 2:35 is absolutely shit and needs to be improved.
I was honestly just trying to get as best time I could which is a terrible strategy. Now though I'm going to go start lighter then go harder further into the row.
what do you think of/how do you use your heartrate monitor?
also that's great consistency
hr monitor works really well, i use the h7 polar that c2 shills. im trying to do heart rate training so i can be a little more well rounded coming into next season
I feel really bad now because my goal has been a sub 8 2k, I get on track for a sub 2 pace for the first 1500 but I don't have the endurance to push for the last 500. Can't row now because the ergs are in the gym and the gyms closed. I'm 5'10, 150 lbs so I should definitely be able to do sub 8. How to increase endurance? Just row steady state for longer times?
Pic rel is my best 2k
Do you belong to a rowing club? If so then it probably doesn’t have to do with your form. Other than form, I’d say the best way to get better is a lot of steady state. It depends on your number of sessions though. If you are only going to work out twice a week then your time is much better spent on mkre intense workouts. If you plan on training 4-5 days a week I would do mainly steady workouts and include 1-2 hard workouts per week. When you do steady state, make sure that you are truly working easy. Comfortably talking is the sign you are doing SS right.
Can I get similar effects to rowing by doing something like 100 rows with light dumbbells? Or using a resistance band to bang out 100s of rows?
Rowing is mainly lower body and cardio focused. I saw a janky setup with a skateboard and resistance bands but if you want anything close to rowing you need to use a rowing machine.
Had no idea it was so lower body intensive. 100+ reps on the leg press it is. But nah, I'll use a rowing machine when the gym reopens, thanks
If you're reasonably fit you shouldn't have any problem going sub 8. The fact you didn't realize it was lower body dominant suggests your technique is the issue
fuck off, the whole season has been cancelled
No I don't row at all, just wanting to get into it
girl in my club did 6:28 a few weeks ago (national record)
I think that´s better than me right now because I don´t have an erg at home and the club is closed, fucking lockdown
