There was a study done and I will try to find it, 3 groups, one group on 600mg test/week who followed a workout, another group on the same workout. And a group who did 600mg and did NOT workout. The diet/exercise were controlled and monitored in the groups that did it.

The group that took 600mg/week and DID NOT work out, put on more lean muscle then the workout group not on test. Point being test is fucking awesome and if you have the receptors to respond well you will.

Granted it wasn't a show tier lean muscle but muscle gains is still gains.

progressive overload is a requirement of productive training, not an optional. If you actually believed this, you'd just be injecting increasingly large doses of steroids while sitting on the couch and getting swole, but you dont because you suspect this isnt true.
