But they have never felt what their bodies can truly accomplish
Normies say this is cringe
anyone that says that's cringe is a weak pathetic waste of life why would i care?
I aint no normie and you're cringe
This quote is what does it for me. Imagine dying in your bed and realizing you never saw the full potential of what your body is capable of when being young.
how did the ancient greeks even lift to look like that?
Did they invent the squat, bench and deadlift there already?
they invented philosophy you think they couldn't invent the squat???
When I was very very young like 7 or 8 I realized that you could be both lazy and strong if you just did some pushups.
Been lifting ever since.
doubtful that they ALL looked like that, im sure the olympians were able to be the most jacked simply due to being rich and able to eat more. on average though they probably looked pretty damn good due to military training keeping them fit.
Bro i thought this was a skyrim loading screen
Plenty of anons will say that too, like half the posts in motivation threads are about how cringe the quotes and images are. I've unironically gone full circle, from liking them to thinking they were mostly awkward to enjoying them again. Most of them.
Its a good quote, but it's cringe cause im pretty sure Socrates never said that. Its out of his character
While the quote is great, the Internet Ubermensch attitude is very cringe.
It's a pretty good quote but it doesnt really work for me. It's like "oh you should hit the gym because aren't you curious how your body will look and feel if you do?". I am kind of curious but that defiantly isn't the reason I'm doing it. I expect that getting stronger and better looking will improve my life and I think that the best way to achieve this is to be aggressive and impatient with training. Socrates just sounds too laid back here.
He did say it.
>And yet the results of physical fitness are the direct opposite of those that follow from unfitness. The fit are healthy and strong; and many, as a consequence, save themselves decorously on the battlefield and escape all the dangers of war; many help friends and do good to their country and for this cause earn gratitude; get great glory and gain very high honours, and for this cause live henceforth a pleasanter and better life, and leave to their children better means of winning a livelihood.
>I tell you, because military training is not publicly recognised by the state, you must not make that an excuse for being a whit less careful in attending to it yourself. For you may rest assured that there is no kind of struggle, apart from war, and no undertaking in which you will be worse off by keeping your body in better fettle. For in everything that men do the body is useful; and in all uses of the body it is of great importance to be in as high a state of physical efficiency as possible. Why, even in the process of thinking, in which the use of the body seems to be reduced to a minimum, it is matter of common knowledge that grave mistakes may often be traced to bad health.

And because the body is in a bad condition, loss of memory, depression, discontent, insanity often assail the mind so violently as to drive whatever knowledge it contains clean out of it. But a sound and healthy body is a strong protection to a man, and at least there is no danger then of such a calamity happening to him through physical weakness: on the contrary, it is likely that his sound condition will serve to produce effects the opposite of those that arise from bad condition. And surely a man of sense would submit to anything to obtain the effects that are the opposite of those mentioned in my list.
>Besides, it is a disgrace to grow old through sheer carelessness before seeing what manner of man you may become by developing your bodily strength and beauty to their highest limit. But you cannot see that, if you are careless; for it will not come of its own accord.

When I was younger I trained hard. I recieved an athetic scholarship to play college ball and got a full ride for 4 years. Training was like a full time job. Looking back at pictures I was in great shape and looked amazing.
But now I've moved on to a different stage of my life. Im 35 now. I don't need huge muscles or explosive power anymore. I just eat healthy do moderate exercise, maybe some pushups and pullups every once in a whIle and physical activities I enjoy like riding my bicycle and playing volleyball.
I dont train anymore. Because I've been there. I've done that. And I think guys who fail to move past that are demonstrating their immaturity in a way. Just training for the sake of training. Making gains for the sake of gains.
When I'm on my deathbed I won't regret not having huge muscles at 40. I'm good with where I am. I have other goals now.
It is cringe because it us super dogmatic and because working out is one of the least important things in your life. There are much better things to do than waste 40 hours a week to look like a model. It is actually quite narcissistic and serves no real purpose except jerking of to your reflected image or drawing chicks to you. I am actually cringing while typing this, holy shit how pretentious can fitfags be
You're retarded if you think that's the only purpose of exercising.
That is the SOLE reason to exercise, if you think like the quote above. Fucking use your brain and consider the context in which all comments here are written.
what the fuck do you all day that's so fucking meaningful, faggot?
Yes, because Socrates was all about getting chicks and mirin himself in the mirror. Beauty is more than just vain appreciation of yourself, idiot. And besides, you very clearly went beyond the context of the quote:
>working out is one of the least important things in your life
>serves no real purpose except jerking of to your reflected image
Lol, fitfag gets mad. If you are a low IQ individual and the only thing you are good in is sports, then I have no qualms with you spending most of our free time on exercising, even if it doesnt lead you to any revenue. This is the only acceptable scenario in which being a sportsfag is not totally pathetic
Lol misquoting and putting words into my mouth. Fitbros are getting very easily triggered here. Where did I say that Socrates was exercising only for the purpose for mirin and sex? He propably didnt even exercise in real life. However, other people who are obsessed with exercising are doing for the two reasons mentioned above.
And dont start with the 'exercising is for reaching your limits!!!!' that is not remotely true for gymbros.
>basic motions of the body
hmmmmm
>working out is one of the least important things in your life.
You're right, having autism is.
Holy shit
You're both DYEL and retarded, I'm done here.
God youre so fucking dumb
will never reach the platonic ideal of man
Nice, good to know that the only available options are being Socrates and being a simple minded gymbro.
Brb, stopping all further pushups, pull ups, and buying a wheelchair.
'Reeeee I have no arguments to debunk my opponent, lets call him retarded!'
I actually do lift, and I enjoy doing sports quite a lot, but lets be real here. After s certain point it becomes self-idealizing
Never said or implied any of that.
Can you guys actually debunk ANY of the points I made or do you want to continue misunderstanding everything on purpose?
Yes, autism is the least important thing in life.
...Wait, what?
