Yeah I agree with you, most men who do nofap start it with a defeatist mentality of "if I can only last X days without touching my weiner i'll finally stop wanting it". But they don't realise that this exact way of thinking is stopping them from ever escaping the porn trap. A much more helpful mindset would be "I will stop using porn and never come back to it.
