Yes, but you'll reach a point where you'll need to do isolation to progress on compounds, especially on bench and ohp
Yes you can get aesthetic by doing strength training. Just don't eat like shit. You won't get as good looking as someone who purely trains for looks though.
Solid upper body but what about legs? or is it the angle?
Should I just relegate my training to compounds for the first year, and then move on after, this is under the assumption that I'll get better at performing isolations doing these compounds.
hamstring curls are generally necessary
you can do curls with a barbell
I do lat raises and rear delt raises to assist my shoulders
my favorite machine at the gym is the chest fly
What are you trying to do?
Pic related is me 2 years ago doing OP's workout with only pec flys, heavy DB rows, and lateral raises. I also did a lot of cardio (running in the 2-4 mile range, HIIT training on stationary bikes).
Take it how you will, but essentially yeah, you can have a certain degree of aesthetics by doing a mostly strength based routine. Take note though that our chests, arms, traps, and delts are all a bit smaller and less developed than someone who does a split with aesthetics in mind. OP's workout will give you a "strong and fit" look like an athlete, but not necessarily like a swimsuit model.
>with only pec flys, heavy DB rows, and lateral raises
To clarify, this is in addition to the lifts OP's workout has. Also I didn't do a lot of squats, got bad knees. My legs just stay big, purely genetic.
Funnily this pic was posted once on Reddit as "Trex" example
what were your stats back then? what did you do since and what are your current stats?
Yeah he's right, but so is this user Some isolations that help with Deadlift are the hyperextension and the Pendlay Row with Barbell.
For dips/pullups, I can suggest using gymnastic rings for added support for the smaller stabilizer muscles. You can also switch up pullups for chinups by using rings.
I personally don't even bench, even though I should but it needs a spot and I usually don't have a spot
What would be the most key isolation exercises for aesthetics in addition to strength and athleticism?
Does anyone know what program specifically would be run for this? Just classic strength, low rep program?
Holy shit I remember this pic circulating here years ago like 2012 and thinking he was massive. Now I'm much past, funny how your definition and view of what's swole changes as you get bigger
He unironically has bad quads and small adductors
For athleticism, you might just want to practice whatever sports you have in mind. Your body will get more used to it that way. It has to deal with proprioception, which is the way your muscles/nerves communicate with your brain on how it should use your muscles to perform a certain task. Each part of your body corresponds to a different part of your brain and when you do new movements, you're introducing your brain to new concepts
Lat raises, Bicep curls, dumbbell skull crushers, Leg extensions, any abdominal workout
Honestly can't remember, but if I had to estimate:
B: 220
OHP: 155
S: 270x5 (like I said I rarely ever squatted)
DL: 355 ish
I'll be honest, I wasn't as strong as I looked. I didn't follow any real plan, so I plateaued a lot through college. Just lifting the same weights for weeks. Since then I'm about the same, a little less strong, a little less lean (still have visible ribs and abs, not quite as defined as that pic though). That was my senior year of college, been doing a lot of traveling and working since then. Went from working out 6 days a week (twice a day on at least two of those days) to working out maybe 4-5 times a week.
Stability stuff for your hips and shoulders. It's annoying and tedious, but it helps your lifts and it prevents injury.
For shoulders I would do ITYs, face pulls, and occasionally rotator cuff work; for hips I'd do abductor spreads and glute isolation.
Also stopped falling for the "curls are bad" meme and started curling. Fuck it, I wanted to fill out my sleeves in T-shirts more.
sounds good
>ITYs
what does this stand for?
It's literally the positions you make with your arms. You lean your chest on a yoga ball, feet and knees on the ground, and you extend your arms from the ground as high as you can, either parallel to each other (I), straight out to the side like a reverse delt fly (T) or at 45 degree angles (y). You can youtube it if that made no sense.
thanks
Would add klokov style btn presses for stability, lat raises, some sort of trap work, I like snatch grip shrugs.
Kek look how fucking dyel he is
Looks like white balkangigachad, wouldn't mind having his body with a bit more chest
The guy looks good but he's not what people think of when they think "aesthetic".
Phraks greyskull is a good one that uses those lifts, only difference is it has rows instead of dips
i look like shit compared to you and yet im considerably stronger
not sure strength really does equal aesthetics.
Is greyskull even heavy enough on the volume? why does it only do 3 sets?
Just do 5 then if that's a problem
