Realistically how could they fix/regulate this? Maybe elbows must break 90 degrees?

I forgot to mention that this guy wont 1st place.

*won

you cant outlaw the arch since it makes the bench safer on the body. 90 degree elbows could work for everyone but bloatlords. maybe hand placement cannot be more than a thumbs length outside the shoulders?
even with ultra arches, the beanch is cheated by cutting the ROM with a wided grip similar to a cheater ground hoist (the japanese standing ring combatives dl) cuts the ROM

They don't want to fix this. The only reason anyone gives half a shit about powerlifting is because people put up big numbers and they won't have that if they don't allow people to do this.

they should make it a rule that your arms have to go at least 90 degree angle on bench

switch to paraolympic bench.

Yeah it looks so stupid. How can any of them deceive themselves and think they can handle that weight when they actually dont

>310kg/683lb
>bruh

god damn that man is a unit above the waist.

RIP to that guy. he actually died of corona virus

he is simply that mechanically advantaged. could you lift that weight?

>heart attack at 31
PEAK PERFORMANCE

Seen a few power lifters talk about it, the only real way to do anything about it would be to enforce specific grip width for the different weight classes.

Something like >93kg do whatever, under that each class has to take a narrower grip. But even that is a bit meh

Instead of making increasingly inane and restricting rules, why not just make it a gentleman's sport. Men who participate know the correct way to lift, and if they are trying to jew their way into higher lifts with this sort of bullshit you don't allow them to compete.

I know this works, we do it for surfing. Bullshit games are not permitted, you either make it or you don't.

Replace it with The Press

>chest bounce
>double layback
>hip extension
strength lifting please go. the standing incline is even more cheated then the bench

powerbuilder here. Love putting up numbers just for fun and to see how strong I can become. Other than that I would never compete, that bench shit, the 3 inches rom extreme sumo pullers, its a fucking joke. I just like challenging myself, and its fun to move heavy ass weight.

cringe if you havent competed youre just a larping gymbro

Powerlifting is a meme, the whole sport is literally about bending the rules to make it appear like you're strong. Strongman and oly lifting are where it's at.

this pathetic shit + sumo deadlifts + low bar back squats basically not hitting parallel are why I ditched powerlifting for chad oly lifting

cope

that's fucking amazing

Hahaha imagine being mad that some guy one a competition by doing something within the rules that you don’t really like.
“Sumo is cheating” “Exorcist Arch”
People find ways to innovate around rules to win. It’s what keeps sport interesting and why you don’t just see the same shit over and over.
At least put some thought into your criticism, this is like complaining that sumo wrestlers are fat.

>Powerlifting is supposed to be the brute strength sport
>invent all kinds of ways to cheat and reduce ROM like, arching, wide stance squats, sumo, etc

Why do people like this joke of a sport? Strongman and Oly are far more entertaining.

Dipping the elbows at least 90 degrees would probably work, yeah.

You know the press was removed from Oly because they cheated too much on it, right?

No, and neither can he without reducing ROM.

>It’s what keeps sport interesting
It doesn't. There's a reason Oly and Strongman are televised and powermemeing is not.

Oh yeah it definitely would be televised if not for the bench arch lmao

It's not just the arch. Sumo, wide grip, wide stance low bar parallel squats, etc. All of that shit has to go.

None of that would ever make PL into a good spectator sport rofl. Strength sports are just boring to watch if you don't add a bunch of bells and whistles like strongman does. The only reason people know about weightlifting is because it's at the Olympics. And they are not about to add new sports in.

Until the money is big enough.

>wide stance low bar parallel squats
why?

>Strength sports are just boring to watc
>Strongman and Oly don't count because reasons

Holy cope.

Hah! Nice lift. Damn.
Btw That commentator is an amazing coach

Same argument can be made for glitching in games for speedrun attempts.
Doing everything in your power within the rules will not get you banned but it doesn't mean it's interesting or fun to watch if the initial process is thrown out of the window.

Squat + OHP + deadlift is literally crossfit

pretty sure Rippetoe made up the 'Crossfit Total' when he was part of it
now he does his strengthlifting thing which is basically that

Oly is all about """"cheating"""" too. Why do you think its any different?

Everyone uses a wide as possible snatch grip. Do you see anyone do a clean grip or narrow grip snatch in competition? No. Its to shorten the ROM. Also there are tons of lifters who use very very wide grip cleans, and even widen their grip further for the jerk (look at CJ Cumminsgs). Again, thats to shorten the ROM.

Also everyone uses contact in the snatch and clean. Again that's cheating technically to your rules. If they wanted it harder, theyd all do no contact. Same with feet movement. It makes the lifts easier.

All these things are allowed in the rules but they make the lifts significantly easier. So how is this any different than the "cheating" in powerlifting?

>IPF "powerlifting"

>Great Britain

Wtf, is that really 310? How heavy are those plates, looks like its only about 190

The dark blue ones are 50kg iirc

Only if you do more than 5 reps.

Nope. Your 1RM of squat + OHP + DL is literally crossfit. Its called Crossfit Total

hear me out lads:
The Z-press
pretty much eliminates the problem of leaning back with a regular seated press and also removes the possibility for layback
that would be the true test of upper body strength

crossfit total ≠ crossfit
it's just one of their WODs

So a Crossfit WOD is not Crossfit? Mate do you read what you type?

yes a crossfit wod ≠ crossfit
that's like saying crossfit = marathon distance rowing because they do it sometimes

So a workout done regularly as part of the Crossfit championships is not Crossfit? Why do they have it in their championship?

synecdoche

thats a pretty retarded movement do do on stage though
its strength lifting. crossfit can do it to sure, but theres people already doing powerlifting with the ohp subbed in for bench
usstrengthlifting.com/

Crossfit Total was first done in the games in 2006. The earliest post on that website is 2016.

Care to explain how strengthlifting isnt just crossfit total done as its own sport?

>thats a pretty retarded movement to do on stage though
sure, but it would be a legit test of upper body strength
no cheating possible, just your trunk and shoulder girdle dictating the weight lifted overhead

is he natty?

being its own sport and not wrapped up into a sub catagory of another is a good start. strength lifters are for maxing three lifts only. the whole point of crossfit is to be mediocre at as many exercises as possible or meme a bullshit one into existence like the kimping pullup.
no. the iranians are pumping them full of whatever they want. just check their olympic weightlifting team

looks like johnny bravo's body

Does he even legs?
