I was thinking a sliding genioplasty. I had braces and they never said my jaw was recessed I just have a weak chin. I think a genioplasty is the best option but I’m not sure. What was your experience like with your maxio? What’d they perform ?

I went to the maxilo for wisdom teeth removal and i told him that i wanted plastic surgery for nose and other things and he mentioned the ortho which he can do, but since it takes a year of braces which i have im still on the fence whether to get the surgery or not.

Hes good but recovery for that surgery is hell i heard.

What you're looking at is probably 7 or 8mm, and any run of the mill maxfac can do that.
Now if you were looking at a big advancement, your options would be a lot more limited.
If you wanted both done at once, you need someone who's good at rhinos and chin stuff. Guyuron used to be GOAT for that combo but he's old as fuck.

Your jaw does look recessed but there's literally no reason to do jaw surgery if all you care about is chin projection and you only want that little.
Also jaw surgery is fucking awful recovery wise and can get fucked up easily

I just had a sliding genioplasty and while the results are great and would highly recommend, my surgeon way over exaggerated how fast it would take to heal and return to normalcy. He told me it would be about a week but it's been a month and while I look basically normal (swelling has gone down drastically) there is still some numbness around my chin and I still can't talk normally. Expect a significant inability to enunciate words for the first month or so. Eating is also a challenge; knowing what I know now I would exclusively eat scrambled eggs, bacon, and greek yogurt for the first 10 days following surgery.

Take at least a week off, and more if you can. Don't expect to do anything strenuous for the first 2-3 weeks. Now is actually the perfect time to recover for me since I'm trapped at home with everyone else and only want to go out for essentials anyway.

Overall would highly recommend, my chin slid forward by 9mm, implants can get you another 6 (if you even need) and my snoring/mouthbreathing has reduced SIGNIFICANTLY (I have an app to track snoring during the night). Turns out the procedure slightly elongates the muscle attached to your chin and this very subtly changes your resting tongue position which is how it reduces snoring. Anyway, highly recommend.

go to an othodontist and have him/her check you for an overbite. I didn't have one but thought I did, turns out I just needed a larger chin, so I got the sliding genio.

If there's no bite problems and you don't need a crazy amount of projection literally no reason to not do genioplasty/custom implant.
The genio recovery is kinda rough ngl, I felt like shit for 2 weeks after.
Implant is supposedly easier but you want to go to someone who knows their shit.
Any maxfac who does jaw surgery can do a genio in their sleep, but plastic surgeons are mostly retards when it comes to implants and most don't even screw fixate and use the intra-oral approach.

results are night and day. I'm so glad I did it and would post pictured if I had. I looked worse than you as my chin basically blended with my neck and I had an obvious double chin when staring straight ahead (frustrating cause I'm about 15% bf sigh). But even though I looked a tad worse, I would still expect a massive improvement. Three weeks is good; you will look pretty normal but still expect a little numbness and you will probably sound a bit weird (maybe only to yourself though).

Not every plastic surgeon can do genioplasty, nor would i trust them all. When cutting bone is someone's job, just the chin isnt a big deal. But most PSs don't do anything that invasive and have zero maxfac training. You wanna make sure you see some before and afters WITH x rays

the mouth isn't "wired shut" at all. The first week will be hard to chew, similar to having wisdom teeth removed (but not as bad). I would have a cup of greek yogurt for breakfast and 4-6 scrambled eggs and protein shakes for lunch/dinner. It's going to be very difficult if you can't cook and need to go out to eat - good luck. Don't expect to be eating sandwiches or really anything that needs a lot of chewing for about 2 weeks.

One annoying thing is there will be a bunch of stitches where your lower teeth meet you gums where the surgeon will likely make and incision to access the chin. Watch some genioplasty videos on youtube if you're curious (beware, it's gross and you may not want to watch the whole thing - I didn't). the stitches will catch food particles and you will need to very delicately pick these out/rinse with water to keep the area clean. You will also get an antibiotic mouth rinse and oral antibiotic to prevent infections. The stitches will dissolve/come out after about a month. Shaving will also be different given the area will be numb for about a week or two. Good luck.

Same had it a couple months back. Recovery is not a cakewalk. I felt like walking death for the first week or so after. I got tired from just strolling around the house, etc.
By 3rd week you feel almost back to normal. I got 8mm but not quite happy with projection so debating doing an implant on top. Surgeon made the right call, since my already narrow chin narrowed significantly from the front and i think any further would have looked horrible. Which is something else they dont tell you about genioplasty unless you ask the right questions

The mentolabial fold
How it will affect lip position
If your chin is not really narrow like mine youll be fine regarding narrowing. Doesnt hurt to ask.
If they want to reduce or add height
Make sure they look at your x rays so they dont cut your roots and show you a morph
