But it's not just 1 Kg, he is lifting the other 500 Kg that comes with it It's a ugly fuckin number, but it will still be the most ever lifted. And many people do that in other things, beating the world record by just a tiny margin just to beat it

501 would be a new world record. That's all there is to say. If Thor does lift 501, he will probably go for a higher weight later. For now, it's about breaking the record and that's totally alright. In a discipline like, say, high jump, the WR is 2.45m: If you're an athlete that is able to come close to that, you won't risk setting the bar at 2.60m before you try 2.46 or 2.47.

No but in high jump WRs only count in official sanctioned events. Not in any old garage. Nobody just turns up in an attempt to beat the record. They make a number of other jumps first until they get to WR height. Yes they can skip increments but they don't skip all the way to 2.41 because there is a risk in failing and being elimated from the competition without a position.

What I'm trying to say is that a World Record is a World Record: It's the greatest feat in that discipline ever achieved. 501 is more than 500, Eddie being the one to make a huge jump in order to get his WR is something different, even though people won't forget that.
