Was SF4 as good as it's scene would lead you to believe it would be?

Which was the best edition of sf4? No stun meter? Was focus a good mechanic? Was all the sf2 pandering really necessary? I want to hear your thoughts.

What sf2 pandering? SFV has also all the sf2 characters. And probably so will sfvi and sfvii

>no fei long
>no t.hawk
>no deejay

BEST CHARACTER WHEN OILED

>wake-up Ultras
This shit still infuriates me

>no Fei Long
Dont. I dont want to remember that.

I like how the roster isn't almost entirely just blond

It certainly had the best OST of any fighting game ever.

Controls were stiff, too tight. Combos were needlessly difficult, like you could do the same motion at different parts in a combo and it'll work at one and not at the other if that makes any sense. Focus cancelling was ridiculous. Ultras aren't as good as v-triggers.

it revived the scene and could have easily gone on for another 5 years despite what elena doomsayers will have you believe.

You're the exact reason why SFV was made

Absolutely not. When SF4 was active the scene hated the game more than anything.
>ugly, clumsy, bad netcode, frames are off
and everyone recommended to play SF2, Alpha 2 or 3rd strike instead.

no matter how much you want to twist reality without SF4 you wouldn't be seeing a lot of fighting games today, it revived a dead scene and gave us tons of new games

The complete version of SFV is better than the complete version of SF4. A lot of the things that sucked in earlier versions of SFV are now fixed, the only thing really still sucking is balances where some characters still have infinite safe options while others have to risk everything.

The only issue with SF4 was non-ex DP's being invul. 1-frame link combos are fine, and I can't do any of them.

>The complete version of SFV is better than the complete version of SF4
It really isn't but whatever

It was great and Ultra still had life left before it was artificially killed off to shill SFV. SF4 should have had 1 more year.

>basic bnb combos requiring plinking; you can never be consistent with 1F links
>same elena vs evil ryu matchup
>entire meta revolves around the broken late crouch tech DP backdash OS

SF4 was only fondly remembered because the scene was full of 09ers that didn't know any better

They hated vanilla IV. Super changed everything for the better, there was some divide about AE 2020, specifically about broken characters, and Ultra is more or less universally loved.

i hated playing sf4
i didn't fancy kofxiii as much as i should either but at least i played it and brought it to locals in hopes people would fucking play kof
instead, make way for mahvel, sf4, and skullgirls

The SF2 pandering was absolutely necessary. It's the reason it was successful and SF3 wasn't.

As for the game it was pretty good. Better then 5, not as good as 3 but the bigger popularity meant more people to play with. No stun meter doesn't bother me. Focus is okay, but not good. It was a very decent game that came out at the right time. It had a lot of style and visual flare that I appreciate now considering how sterile and shitty looking recent Capcom fighters have been. It wasn't the greatest game but it was fun enough and helped revive fighting games after the dark ages of the 2000s.

>Which was the best edition of sf4?
Partial to Super, but every version is fun to play.
>No stun meter?
Would have been nice to have but you get used to it.
>Was focus a good mechanic?
Nornal forcus, yes. Red focus, no.
>Was all the sf2 pandering really necessary?
It was appreciated since it was a nostalgia event for a lot of people. Would not have been as popular without it. Just look at V and 3rd Strike.

With regards to the scene, I didn't interact with it much. I just liked practicing combos for the dexterity exercise. Got light nerve damage and playing fighting games made me feel I had control over my body again. Felt like a lot of people I met were playing the game for reasons very different than my own.

The smartest thing they did was treat it as a soft reboot that didn't undo anything. My only real complaint that isn't gameplay related is that timeline wise, the inclusion of SFIII characters and the respective ages of the girls feels off. But who gives a fuck cause they're great, particularly Dudley.

I had a lot of fun with the trials in SFIV. I'm more disappointed that I've hovered at 90% complete and I just don't mesh with a few characters and their cancels. Viper and Fuerte specifically.

elena ruined it

>particularly Dudley.
Nice to see a gentleman with taste

Okay whatever. I played SF4 more than that on console too, had it both on PC and 360. I guarantee I've played more of every Street Fighter game than either everybody or most everybody in this thread.

SFV > SF4

Usf4 was fucking awesome.
It had a bunch of annoying shit but was able to bring together a bunch of people of varying skill levels that made the game fun as fuck.
The threads about it on Yas Forums were pure magic and playing it on Japanese arcades was a blast. Even if I was shit I was having so much fun learning character and match-up that I didn't even give a shit about being stomped.
Also the entire scene revólver ng around was legit interesting. Seeing all the pros going at each other with the most bullshit and crazy starts during matches was a mix of impressive and funny at the same time. Watching excellent adventures + matches on YouTube made some of my weekends and work afternoons.
It is a real shame Sf5 wasn't able to replicate this magic to the point I haven't watched Evo in 3 or 4 years. Playing usf4 is not the same nowadays, it feels like one of those arcsys fighters that die within a month.

I'll forever remeber the good times I had with it and will remain within my top 10 games forever even if I always sucked it

The SF2 pandering WAS needed because the genre was kind of dead for a decade, especially on Capcom's end. SFIII also bombed in part due to the lack of recognizable characters.
Can't agree. It had some fantastic music here and there but 3S & SFV have better music in the same series.

Favorite character in the franchise user. Next to SFV Birdie.
I wish they'd give Hakan another shot. He was fun.

I have 2.4k hours logged loosely estimated if I count GFWL time and I started just before 2012. What they did to Vega alone in Jive makes me drop it like the watered down slop it is
