How do we fix jrpg dungeons?

bravely default dungeons are pretty straight forward though

play better games

that's OP's point?

Shit like this seems overwhelming to me
I look at this and go "oh fuck" instead of being happy for a challenge

the Persona Q games on the DS have a similar map layout but it doesn't get overwhelming because you draw it yourself using the lower screen.
same with grid based games like Legend of Grimrock on PC where the map is revealed tile by tile so you have time to get familiar with every corner.

Dungeons in most games are boring, the only interesting ones are the ones that have some sort of puzzle or mechanic that spans across multiple rooms or multiple floors.

Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler would be a lot better with more fun or active dungeons, but they really are lazy. Bravely Second had some visually pretty ones though.

More complexity

Is this image trying to imply that this kind of dungeon design is somehow new when it comes to RPG dungeons?
Because that doesn't really make sense but maybe the one who made it is just stupid? Or is it perhaps just criticizing the games for using "dated" design?
One could argue it's simply tried and tested though. What's it getting at? Is it retarded or just a shitpost? Both maybe?

thats his whole point. you just wanted an excuse to post this picture

someone post EO maps.

I’m playing Octopath now, really stinks that the only real secrets are hidden by the visuals of the environment, which has led me to just hugging a wall in every dungeon before I head down a sudden path.

Look at these cool dungeons you'll just use Invisible, Sneak, and Deodorize to rush though.

Random encounters ruin dungeons

I WONDER WHY A LITERAL FIRST PERSON DUNGEON CRAWLER HAS MORE COMPLEX DUNGEONS THAN A COOKIE CUTTER JRPG WITH A TWIST

Jesus these dungeons were the worst I ever played all the fucking chest were filled with shit like potions and the only good items were the ones you steal from bosses or you bought from the online part

Playing through the EO4 post game now, I love the info they hide in rooms. The acid floors in one room mirroring the safe paths in another is too cool. I feel dumb I just brute forced some paths though.

>JRPG WITH A TWIST

the dungeon is your abandoned brother.
the dungeon boss is your father.
your waifu is actually your mother.

I was talking about BD and its great excuse to reuse content for 50 hours straight.

God, I really hope BD2 doesn't pull that bullshit. What a way to waste a genuinely excellent game.

a reminder that you had to map this yourself, so if you didnt map it right you would be stuck since you may not have the right information to solve the map. ts shits brutal, especially if you dropped a game for a while and have no idea what you were doing.

Which EO is this?

You can't invisible, sneak, and deoderize through a colonization reive.

I hate how JRPG dungeons feel like they're still designed using graph paper. Devs have a whole extra dimension to work with nowadays, add some interesting traversal options!

You're playing the wrong games

Thanks.

This is the one thing P5's dungeons did well, even if it was mostly for show and nothing else.

It’s kind of hard to get behind this considering what happened to Pokemon’s dungeons in the newer games.

add a secret condition that, if you accomplish it inside that dungeon, unlocks a sex scene
